Description
Under general supervision controls and extinguishes fires, protects life and property, and maintains all fire equipment. Will be stationed at Van Wyck FD as day shift response. Shift hours and days for duty may change as the service moves forward giving more 7 day per week coverage for the district.
Examples of Duties
Receives and responds to fire alarms and other emergency calls performing the necessary functions and operations too efficiently handle any fireground situation. Performs fire inspections and pre-fire planning as directed. Minor vehicle and equipment maintenance, and other related tasks. Reports to the Lancaster County Fire Rescue Director through the established chain of command.
Typical Qualifications
High School graduate with successful completion of firefighter training courses equivalent to South Carolina Fire Academy courses 1152, 2722, NFPA Firefighter I and II, Lancaster County Blood Born Pathogen, Emergency Vehicle Driver Training, and first aid with Medical first responder required in first year. Hazmat Technician will be required in the first year of employment along with pump operations. Must possess a minimum class E South Carolina Driver’s License or CDL with tanker endorsement. At least two years’ experience in active fire service participation preferred. Combinations of education, training and service along with volunteer service will be taken into consideration.
