Under immediate supervision, performs general unskilled maintenance work.
The current vacancy will be for the Public Works department under the Parks, Fleets, Facilities division.

Minimum Qualifications
Some experience in the use of clean-up and basic gardening equipment, or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities listed below:
DESIRABLE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of: common tools and equipment used in construction, maintenance and repair work; basic knowledge of safety precautions and practices in the operation of these tools and equipment.
Skill in: the use of common tools and equipment used in construction, maintenance and repair work.
Ability to: communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing; understand and follow specific oral and written instructions; perform strenuous manual tasks for extended periods and under adverse climatic conditions.
SPECIAL MINIMUM REQUIREMENTSApplicants must possess and retain a valid Class C California driver's license as a condition of employment in this classification.

Applications will be reviewed by the Human Resources Department. Those applicants possessing the most pertinent qualifications will be invited to continue in the selection process, which will include:
Written Examination (Tentatively scheduled for May 1-5, 2026): (Weight of 50%) will evaluate applicants' knowledge of principles and methods pertaining to the position of General Maintenance Assistant.
Oral Interview Examination (Tentatively scheduled for June 4, 2026 ): (Weight of 50%) will evaluate the candidates' experience, training, education and abilities in relation to those factors which are essential for successful performance on the job.
Candidates must achieve a passing score in every component of the selection process in order to be placed on the eligible list. The Human Resources Department may waive one or more examination components. When one weighted examination component is waived, the remaining section will receive a weight of 100%.
