Environmental Biologist III positions review environmental impact reports; conduct field work; identify sensitive species, habitats and vegetation types; oversee consultant services for environmental projects; develop and implement mitigation measures to comply with local, state and federal environmental laws, policies and regulations; perform associated environmental studies; prepare technical reports and correspondence; serve as a technical expert and liaison to state and federal wildlife agencies on resource management and Multiple Species Conservation Program issues; supervise, train and evaluate the work of subordinates; and perform other duties as assigned.

- Researching, analyzing, and preparing biological studies and/or environmental impact reports pertaining to environmental issues.
- Evaluating environmental impact reports and/or biology studies pertaining to environmental issues for content, completeness, and accuracy.
- Implementation of habitat restoration projects, which MUST include planning, plant propagation, hydroseeding, plan installation, project maintenance, and monitoring.
- A Master's Degree or higher in Biology, Ecology, Environmental Planning, or a closely related field may be substituted for a MAXIMUM of one year of the required experience.
- City of San Diego employees using Out-of-Class Assignment (OCA) experience to qualify must submit written documentation signed by their appointing authority or payroll specialist, detailing the work performed, dates, and total number of qualifying OCA hours. OCA experience without the required documentation will NOT be considered.
HIGHLY DESIRABLE(S):
- Field experience in the terrestrial biology of native Southern California habitats, plants, and animals.
- Possess permits to conduct protocol-sensitive species surveys (e.g., Coastal CA Gnatcatcher).
- Survey experience working with rare, threatened, and endangered species.
- Experience working with federal and state biological resource agencies in their respective permit processes.
- Knowledge and experience with California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) and National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) procedures.
- Knowledge and experience related to the implementation of the Multiple Species Conservation Program City of San Diego Subarea Plan, the City of San Diego Environmentally Sensitive Lands (ESL) Regulations, or other NCCPs/HCPs.
- Experience supervising staff involved in environmental planning and biological impact analysis.
- Experience working at an airport as a Biologist or Environmental Planner.
- Experience in analyzing and preparing biological studies and/or biological reports pertaining to environmental review and analysis.
- Knowledge of management techniques and/or survey experience with regionally sensitive species.
- Experience with Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
- Proof of degree/transcripts.
- For City of San Diego employees, proof of Out-of-Class Assignment (OCA), if utilized to meet the minimum requirements.
