Position Summary
The Tree Trimmer position performs journey level work for the City of Salem Urban Forestry Division. This includes maintaining trees in over 90 city parks and 50,000 street trees. Tree trimmers are responsible for performing a variety of tasks, including operating aerial lift trucks, track lifts, woodchippers, stump grinders, skid steers, loaders and tools used in all facets of tree work.
Successful candidates will have knowledge and experience with industry standards in pruning, removal, and tree planting as well as experience with GIS asset management and tree inventory. Tree Trimmers will be expected to climb tress using MRS(moving rope system) or SRS(stationary rope system) using rope and saddle and working in aerial lift equipment at considerable heights.
As a Tree Trimmer you will be an integral member of the Urban Forestry Division of Parks Operations, with a large role in the maintenance of the City of Salem’s tree canopy. The Urban Forestry Division of Parks Operations and Maintenance is within the Community Services Department and is a small yet collaborative group that is focused on safety, customer service and teamwork.
The City of Salem is dedicated to urban tree canopy awareness and management and has received accreditation from the Arbor Day Foundation Tree City USA for over 50 years and continues to meet the needs of Salem’s residents.

Minimum Qualifications
Three years of tree climbing experience and aerial lift operation experience in the tree care industry
Must pass the pre-employment drug test (including marijuana)
Must be 18 years of age
Must pass the pre-employment background check
Must have an Oregon Commercial Driver's license or ability to acquire within one year of hire
Must have a driving record that meets the City of Salem's driving standards
Flagger certification, current first aid and CPR certification preferred
ISA Certified Arborist or ability to acquire within one year of hire
ODA Pesticide Applicators license of ability to acquire within one year of hire
