General Description and Hiring Rate
Hiring rate for this position is $19.40/hr. Hours: Monday-Friday, 7am-6pm (up to 40 hours/week, exact times vary)
Under the direction of the Recreation Supervisor, the Assistant Camp Director assists in planning, organizing, implementing, and supervising all aspects of municipal camp programs, including day camp and/or seasonal camp activities. This role supports staff supervision and training, camper safety, program development, parent communication, and day-to-day operational management of the camp. The Assistant Camp Director may act in the absence of the Camp Director and is responsible for maintaining a fun, safe, inclusive, and high-quality program experience for campers, staff, and families.
Essential Job Functions
- Assists with planning, coordinating, and implementing camp programs, schedules, and activities
- Supports daily camp operations to ensure safety, supervision, and positive camper experiences.
- Assists in supervising, training, and supporting camp staff and volunteers.
- Helps enforce camp rules, policies, and safety procedures.
- Communicates with parents/guardians regarding program information, concerns, or incidents.
- Completes basic administrative tasks such as attendance, reports, and inventory.
- Serves as acting Camp Director when needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned/
Minimum Qualifications
- Knowledge of basic recreational programming and youth supervision principles.
- Ability to supervise children and assist with staff oversight.
- Ability to recognize safety concerns and respond appropriately to emergencies.
- Strong communication, organization, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and enforce rules consistently.
Ages 18 High school diploma or GED is required, experience working with children or youth in a camp, recreation, or educational setting, supervisory or leadership experience preferred, CPR and First Aid certification required or ability to obtain within a designated timeframe. Valid Florida Driver’s License.
Physical Requirements and Environmental Conditions
- Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout camp facilities for extended periods.
- Ability to lift and carry supplies or equipment of moderate weight.
- Visual and auditory acuity sufficient to supervise participants and respond to emergencies.
- Work performed indoors and outdoors in recreational facilities, parks, and camp settings.
