This position is responsible for extinguishing fires, providing emergency medical intervention, conducting fire prevention activities, and educating the public. Duties include assessing the nature and extent of illness or injury at emergency scenes and administering initial treatment.

Recruitment Process:

2. JTS - tentatively scheduled for 05/27/2026 and 05/28/2026

3. Panel Interview - tentatively scheduled for 06/08/2026 and 06/09/2026
• If you are selected to interview, you will participate in a 20-30 minute interview with a panel of current Firefighters and Fire Officers. Candidates are ranked by the results of this panel.
4. Background Investigation
• A thorough investigation will be conducted based on the responses from your interview, Personal History Statement packet, and reference checks.
5. In-home Chief's Interview - tentatively scheduled for week of 06/22/2026 – 06/26/2026
• A Chief Officer from the department will interview you in your home.
6. Fire Chief's Interview - tentatively scheduled for the week of 06/22/2026 – 06/26/2026
• Interview with the Fire Chief
• Original copies of certain documentation must be provided for verification purposes.
• Conditional offer of employment contingent upon medical examination

Training & Preparedness
- Participate in and conduct training to maintain certification, enhance skills, and build knowledge of suppression materials, methods, and techniques through classroom instruction and live evolutions.
- Study response territory and become familiar with streets and property locations.
Emergency Medical Services
- Assess patient condition and take vital signs; provide basic and/or advanced life support as necessary.
- Assess the nature and extent of illness or injury at emergency scenes and administer initial treatment.
- Perform rescue operations from vehicles, confined spaces, and other settings.
Fire Suppression & Hazard Response
- Suppress chemical, vehicle, structure, and all other types of fires.
- Salvage property and respond to hazardous conditions.
- Protect lives by mitigating hazardous conditions and/or evacuating affected areas.
Prevention & Inspection
- Participate in pre-fire planning, prevention, and inspection activities.
- Become acquainted with commercial building layouts and chemical storage locations.
Physical Fitness
- Participate in regular exercise activities to maintain fitness for duty and perform all essential functions of the position.
Community Education
- Educate the public on fire safety and prevention at schools, public events, health Fairs, association meetings, and similar community venues.
Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential function of this position. The ability to establish and maintain professional, harmonious working relationships with others is required.
- High School diploma or GED required.
- Valid Texas Class C Driver’s License; must be able to obtain Texas Class B Driver’s License
- TCFP Basic Structural Firefighter certification required
- TDSHS Paramedic certification required
Technical Competency
- Demonstrated competency in handling emergencies and utilizing all Basic and Advanced Life Support equipment and skills in accordance with behavioral objectives outlined in the DOT/EMT Basic, EMT-Intermediate, and EMT-Paramedic curriculum.
- Ability to read and interpret training manuals, certification materials, vehicle placards, instruction manuals, and standard operating procedures.
- Proficiency in completing fire reports, applying fire codes to incident documentation, and maintaining accurate equipment logs.
Mathematical Ability
- Ability to learn and apply algebraic hydraulic formulas for pump operations.
- Competency in drug and oxygen calculations, unit of measure conversions, and drip rate calculations based on body weight.
Critical Thinking & Decision-Making
- Ability to quickly analyze complex information in emergencies or dangerous situations and make sound, life-safety decisions.
- Skill in evaluating emergency situations, prioritizing tasks, and ensuring appropriate treatment and action under life-threatening conditions.
Interpersonal & Team Skills
- Ability to manage interactions with irate, hysterical, frightened, and/or injured individuals; employ de-escalation techniques to verbally calm individuals in distress.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team with firefighters and other emergency personnel.
- Ability to live and working in a community setting in close proximity to co-workers.
- Ability to communicate professionally with members of the public, including children.
- Ability to maintain emotional composure in all types of emergency situations.
