Under direct supervision, performs support functions for Municipal Court; performs related duties as required.
Essential Job Functions
Heavy public contact. Responsible for maintaining a daily cash drawer; data entry; prepare receipts for payments of traffic violations. Assist public at counter with fine payments and all types of dispositions of cases. (Defensive Driving, Compliance Dismissals, Proof of FMFR [Insurance], Continuances, etc.)
Enters and retrieves data in automated systems, maintains files and records; work with Incode court software, Microsoft Word and Outlook. Provides clerical support for department; answers and directs incoming calls, greets visitors, answers questions for court dockets, trial dates, and fine information etc. Maintain confidentiality with regards to all court files.
Performs other duties as assigned. Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential function of this position, as is the ability to create and maintain professional, harmonious working relationships with others.
Minimum Requirements
Graduation from High School or completion of GED and one year of general clerical or public contact experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Good knowledge of general office practices. Basic English and Math skills, good typing skills; ability to accept responsibility and account for his/her actions. Ability to Multi-Task. Must work well in stressful situations. Ability to perform work accurately and thoroughly. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Ability to follow instructions, safety practices, and standard operating procedures in performing assigned tasks. Ability to organize and maintain filing systems, ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, general public and elected officials. Respectful personality. Preferably one year of Municipal Court experience utilizing Incode Case Management Software (will teach the right candidate).
Bilingual Preferred; Spanish/English fluency a plus.
Skill in the use of a computer and in the operation of software, Microsoft Office. Must be able to multi-task.
Other Requirements
Valid driver's license required. Must have and maintain a good driving record in accordance with the driving standards as established by the City of Rowlett. Must report all traffic citations to his/her departmental Director or his/her designee within two working days of receipt.
Must be available to work mandatory overtime. Must be able to obtain Level I Court Clerk Certification issued by the Texas Court Clerks Association within one (1) year of employment. Preference may be given to those that already have Level I Court Clerk Certification.
Works primarily in a climate-controlled office environment. Physical demands consist of sedentary work and some physical effort working with light, easy to handle (must be able to lift banker boxes full of records (25lbs. approx.) materials. Work performed may occasionally cause fatigue of eyes and fingers because of fairly continuous use of motor senses in using automated office systems. Requires sitting for long periods of time, manual dexterity and visual acuity.
