Description

The City of Richmond Department of Public Utilities is seeking for highly qualified candidates to fill Engineer Principal- Modeling Engineer position. The selected candidate will support DPU Water Distribution team with hydraulic modeling function for capital improvement projects, system planning, and analytical support as needed. The select candidate shall be proficient with Geographical Information Technology (GIS) and Autodesk Infowater Pro or equivalent hydraulic modeling software and must possess technical knowledge of American Water Works Association (AWWA) and National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) best practices and standards related to water distribution system.

Duties include but are not limited to

  • Develop, calibrate, and maintain city’s water distribution hydraulic model using Autodesk Infowater Pro.
  • Perform scenario assessment to support future growth evaluation and water demand projection.
  • Perform system planning to assist with planned or emergency shutdown, and project coordination.
  • Assist with capital planning and project support for water distribution renewal, loop closures, and ancillary projects.
  • Assist with condition assessment of overall water distribution system for low pressure issues, identifying deficiencies, and resiliency/redundancy improvements.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications, Special Certifications And Licenses

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's Degree in mechanical or civil engineering or related field from an ABET-accredited university.
  • Five years of professional engineering experience

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience in water distribution hydraulic modeling.
  • At least two (3) years of general GIS experience.
  • Professional Engineering license in VA.
  • Eight (8) years of experience using Autodesk Infowater Pro modeling software or other equivalent hydraulic modeling software.
  • Five (5) years of experience working with municipal water distribution system.
  • Must possess strong fundamentals of fluid mechanics, system integrity, utility risk management, AWWA and NFPA best practice and standards.

LICENSING, CERTIFICATIONS, And OTHER SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Some assignments may require a valid Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record and a valid Commonwealth of Virginia Driver's License within 30 days of hire

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Experience presenting to public, management, regulators, and field teams experience preferred.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage projects efficiently and complete in timely manner.
  • Analytical and strategic thinking.
  • Detailed oriented and ability to effectively communicate.

While performing the essential duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to finger (pick, pinch, type or otherwise work primarily with fingers), talk, see, hear and use substantial repetitive motions of the wrists, hands, and fingers. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, and feel; and the employee is occasionally required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and reach extending hands and arms in any direction, push, pull, or lift. In terms of the physical strength to perform the essential duties, this classification is considered to be sedentary, exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to move objects.
