Description
Duties include but are not limited to
- Serving as an enforcement officer, inspecting properties and issuing citations for noncompliance with required property specifications, codes, and regulations
- Administering, coordinating, managing, and maintaining inspection and escalation reports
- Providing professional investigation and analysis of complaints and City responsibilities
- Preparing, writing, and updating various complaint reports, analyses, and other documentation and presenting information as needed to include court testimony
- Supporting and working closely with other divisions within DPW to ensure accuracy of information
- Serving as liaison to external departments and third party claims agency
- Presenting information, responds to requests, and updates supervisor
- Maintaining files in a secure environment and exercises a high degree of confidentiality
- Performing other related duties as assigned
Qualifications, Special Certifications and Licenses
- Associate’s degree or two-year technical certificate
- Three (3) or more years of related experience performing inspections, implementing abatement and enforcement plans, and demonstrating diplomacy in delivering customer service and public contact
- A high school diploma and five (5) or more years of performing inspections may be considered to meet the minimum qualifications for this position
- An equivalent combination of training and experience (as approved by the department) may be used to meet the minimum qualifications of the classification
- Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record and a valid Commonwealth of Virginia driver's license within 30 days of hire
- Must be eligible for Virginia designation as "Conservator of the Peace", if assigned to property maintenance inspections and obtain said designation within one year of employment

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT: Due to the nature of work assignments, incumbents must be able to perform detailed work on multiple, concurrent tasks, with frequent interruptions and under time constraint. While performing the essential duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to reach extending hands and arms in any direction, stand, push, pull, lift, finger (picking, pinching or otherwise working primarily with fingers), grasp applying pressure to an object with fingers or palms, talk, see, and hear. The employee is frequently required to climb, balance, stoop, crouch, crawl, walk, feel and use substantial repetitive motions of the wrists, hands and fingers. In terms of the physical strength to perform the essential duties, this classification is considered to be medium work, exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
