The City of Richfield is now accepting applications for a seasonal maintenance laborers in our Forestry, Streets, Parks, and Utilities Divisions.
NATURE OF WORK
Under general supervision of the Public Works Operations Manager or Utility Supervisor, will perform work of average difficulty in the multi-faceted Public Works Department and other duties as assigned.
HOURS
40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM, flexible.
May include Saturday and Sundays.
This position is seasonal in nature and therefore is a temporary position.ESSENTIAL DUTIES (BY DIVISION)
Wastewater/Stormwater Maintenance:
- Assists in the maintenance and building of storm sewers, catch basins and manholes
- Assists in locating valves, water mains, curb stops and services and exercises valves
- Performs general maintenance on water hydrants and other water facilities
OR
Water Maintenance:
- Assists in the general maintenance of the Richfield Water Treatment Plant, grounds and related facilities
OR
Street Maintenance:
- Patches streets and maintains streets in proper condition
- Works on tree trimming and removal crew
- Repairs and replaces street lights and signs
OR
Park Maintenance:
- Assists in the grass cutting, tree pruning and general outdoor maintenance of City facilities
- Assists in laying out, constructing and maintaining playing fields and facilities
OR
Fleet Maintenance:
- Assists with routine vehicle maintenance including oil changes, mounting tires, and fluid checks
- Assists with maintenance and repair of light/heavy equipment
- Cleaning of garage area
COMPETENCIES
- Working knowledge of general building and grounds construction and maintenance work, tools and equipment
- Knowledge of the safe operation of motor vehicles.
- Ability to work with little direction in the maintenance and repair of water and wastewater systems.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Demonstrates an ability to understand and respect the diversity of customers and co-workers, effectively communicating with individuals whose first language may be one other than English.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- High School Diploma or General Education Development Certificate (GED)
- Must be 18 years or older
- Must have a valid Minnesota driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- One year of college and/or several years of general building and grounds maintenance experience
- Enrolled in any Trade or Technical school
- Experience in General Maintenance/ and or (Water/Wastewater/Stormwater/Street/ park or Fleet Maintenance
- Fluency in Spanish, Hmong, Somali, Vietnamese or other non-English language(s)
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The physical demands that are described herein are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
Must have the ability to:
- Ability to lift, bend and/or move up to 75 pounds
- Ability to operate heavy and light equipment
