What are the responsibilities and job description for the Performance Maintenance Specialist position at City of Republic?
Primary Purpose
Assist in general performance maintenance of the sewer collection utilities specifically. Other performance maintenance as assigned.
Supervision
Under the direct supervision of the Wastewater Project Superintendent and general oversight of the Operations Manager.
- Performs general maintenance tasks at the BUILDS Dept. and property as assigned. Required to do general repairs on utility equipment, vehicles, trailer, and other equipment related to maintenance.
- Responsible for maintenance on a variety of utility equipment and infrastructure throughout the BUILDS Dept.
- Maintains simple records and logs as required.
- Utilizes appropriate safety equipment and procedures, including but not limited to reading and applying instructions and labels for product and equipment operation, wearing appropriate safety gear, and other related safety steps.
- Maintains, cleans, and repairs the equipment assigned to this position.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Important Duties
- Attends in-service training sessions or other training sessions deemed appropriate by supervisor or department head.
- Maintains a neat and orderly work area.
Education & Experience
Must be a High School graduate or equivalent. Must have one year of general labor experience in utility construction and maintenance. Must have a working knowledge of computer software for word processing and spreadsheets, specifically Microsoft programs Word and Excel.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Knowledge of principles, procedures, and equipment involved in the construction, maintenance, or repair of a variety of utility mechanical equipment, structures, grounds, or other related projects preferred; Must be able to operate equipment such as hand and power tools, and vehicles in a manner consistent with safety principles; Must be able to memorize and retain technical information; Must have good cognitive and analytical skills; Must have good time management skills; Must be able to handle stressful situations; Must be able to effectively communicate through written and verbal skills; Must be able to quickly assess or judge situations and make decisions under pressure in areas of responsibility; Must be able to perform effectively as a member of a team in carrying out the City’s Mission, Vision and Values as well as the Trust Edge Experience©, which further establishes the foundation for our Mission, Vision and Values through the 8-Pillars of trust, which are: Clarity, Compassion, Character, Competency, Commitment, Connection, Contribution and Consistency. Licensing/Certification Requirements
- Must possess a valid Missouri State Driver’s License.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Must be able to obtain a Class B Commercial Driver’s License with air brakes.
Miscellaneous Requirements
- May be required to work a variety of shifts including nights, weekends, or holidays.
- Subject to emergency call-in.
- Must be a dependable person due to the small size of the work force.
- Will be subject to random substance abuse testing.
Physical Demands
Performs bending, squatting, crawling, twisting, kneeling, and reaching to ground level and overhead; Must be able to reach, grip and hold; Must be able to walk and stand for prolonged periods of time; Must be able to lift 50 pounds above their head; Must be able to push, pull and carry 80 pounds.
Work Environment
Both indoor and outdoor working environments with exposure to dust and pollen, toxic fumes, chemicals or smoke, contagious diseases, electrical and mechanical hazards associated with equipment, extreme noise; Subject to variety of extreme weather condition; Susceptible to safety hazards associated with working in and around high traffic volume; Works in confined places and awkward positions.
