The City of Reedley is recruiting for one (1) Sewer Collection System Maintenance Worker position in the Public Works Department, Sewer Division.
This position is in the Public Works Department, Sewer Division and works under the immediate supervision of the Wastewater System Supervisor or assigned designee. This position is in the General Services Bargaining Unit (GSU) and subject to the terms and conditions of employment as specified in the GSU Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) and the City's Personnel Policies & Procedures Manual. Under direction, to perform a variety of duties associated with the maintenance, servicing, cleaning, inspection, and minor repair of wastewater collection systems and associated structures and facilities such as the sewer distribution system, lift stations, and Wastewater Treatment Plant, and occasional servicing of storm water facilities when necessary.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
This position requires previous sewer maintenance experience and ability to operate all equipment associated with the position. The position requires a self-motivated worker, who can work independently in performing all duties. A Class B driver's license issued by the California Department of Motor Vehicles is required. A Collection System Maintenance Technician certificate through the California Water Environment Association is optional and desirable, but not mandatory.

EXAMPLES OF IMPORTANT AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES
(may include, but are not limited to, the following)
- Performs a variety of sewer collection maintenance activities such as: servicing/cleaning, CCVC inspection, maintenance and minor sewer line repairs. May perform similar duties on storm drains on occasion when needed.
- Performs servicing/cleaning, maintenance, inspection, monitoring and repair of lift station equipment and facilities.
- Responds to call outs to assist in the maintenance and repairs of equipment, structures, distribution systems, including those in other divisions on occasion when necessary.
- Operates specialized equipment in the maintenance and servicing of the sewer distribution system and associated wastewater structures and facilities, including but not limited to: vacuum jetter truck, rodder, dump truck, hydro-flusher, CCVC equipment, backhoe, front end loader, forklift, tractor and attachments, skid steer, compressor and generator.
- Operates, monitors, maintains, lubricates, inspects and repairs a variety of equipment including but not limited to: motors, pumps, valves, gates, screening equipment, gear boxes, and various other pieces of equipment.
- Works closely with other City personnel in performing duties.
- Materials, tools, methods, practices and equipment used in collection system pipeline servicing/cleaning, maintenance, inspection and minor repairs.
- Basic principles of data recording, record keeping and computer use.
- Basic mathematical principles.
- Follows the City approved safety rules and policies. Informs supervisor of any unsafe conditions, accidents, or injuries.
- Maintains adequate supplies required for the job assignment.
- Maintains all tools and equipment in a clean, safe, and good working condition. Informs supervisor of any lost, missing, or broken tools or equipment.
- Reports all observances of importance to the supervisor.
- Notifies appropriate staff of electrical and instrumentation malfunctions.
- Keeps the appearance of the plant, related facilities and equipment neat and clean.
- Uses, adjusts and maintains for a variety of manual and power operated tools, devises and equipment used in the servicing/cleaning, maintenance, inspection and repairs of the sewer distribution system and associated facilities.
- Writes service orders and maintains accurate records and prepares reports.
- Responds to and investigates customer complaints.
- May be required to perform a variety of other duties as required, such as landscape and grounds maintenance in associated facilities or general building and equipment maintenance, including painting of buildings and equipment, minor repairs and modifications, when collections equipment is down, or when determined to be necessary to assist other divisions or departments for non-routine situations.

Knowledge of:
- Care, operation, maintenance, and repair of mechanical equipment, including pumps, valves, etc.

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATION GUIDELINES

Experience:
- Experience in the servicing, cleaning, maintenance, and minor repairs of a sewer collection distribution system and associated facilities.
- Experience in the operation of equipment used in collection system maintenance. (Including, but not limited to: Vacuum Jetter truck, gas detector, backhoe, dump truck, sewer rodding equipment, manhole hooks, picks, motors and pumps, etc.)
- Experience in mechanical maintenance in hydraulic pumps, valves, gasoline powered engines and motors.
- Possession of a High School diploma or GED equivalent.
- Class B California driver's license with tanker endorsement.
- First Aid and CPR certificates.
- Certificate of competency in collection system maintenance issued through the California Water Environment Association (CWEA) not mandatory, but preferable.

Subject to 24-hour emergency callbacks to assist Wastewater Treatment Plant Operators and respond to sewer collection distribution problems.
Safety regulations prohibit incumbents from wearing contact lenses when working with certain chemicals, or from wearing beards or other facial hair that prevents a proper respirator fit as required depending on work assignment. Must pass annual respirator physical and fit testing depending on work assignment.
