We serve all ages, abilities, and interests through innovative classes and services offered at our facilities and community centers. The Recreation Leader for Adaptive Programs is an exciting opportunity to support a diverse range of recreation programs and services including sports, fitness, dance, art, and more for Redmond-area participants of all ages who live with disabilities.

Hours: Evenings & weekends. The position is limited to a maximum of 29 hours per week on average and no more than 1,040 hours per year. 

Locations: Redmond Community Center at Marymoor Village 

  • Designs and implements inclusive adaptive recreation programs that meet the diverse needs and abilities of participants. 
  • Provides instruction, encouragement, and individualized support to participants while applying adaptive recreation best practices and specialized training. 
  • Ensures a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment by following established policies, procedures, and safety protocols. 
  • Prepares program spaces by setting up, moving, and organizing adaptive equipment, supplies, and furnishings; assists with program breakdown and cleanup. 
  • Leads activities and provides direction and support to staff, volunteers, and program assistants to ensure quality participant experiences. 
  • Builds positive relationships with participants, caregivers, and families by communicating program information and addressing questions or concerns. 
  • Assists with participant check-in, registration, attendance tracking, and the collection of program data and other required documentation. 
  • Maintains program schedules, activity calendars, and informational displays to promote adaptive recreation opportunities. 
  • Answers phone calls, emails, and in-person inquiries, providing excellent customer service and information about adaptive recreation programs and services. 
  • Performs routine administrative and facility support tasks to ensure smooth program operations. 
  • Depending on the program, may safely transport participants to and from activities in accordance with City policies and procedures. 
  • Assists participants with varying support needs while promoting independence, inclusion, dignity, and meaningful participation in all activities.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of assigned program characteristics, theories and practices
  • Knowledge of safety practices and ability to recognize and eliminate unsafe situations or conditions
  • Knowledge of general office procedures; knowledge of building and facility
  • Ability to communicate with diverse populations, ability to provide clear instructions
  • Ability to be sensitive to needs of staff and the public and program participants, and work with them in appropriate manner
  • Ability to maintain accurate records, skills in basic mathematics
  • Ability to work on several tasks at once and to deal well with interruptions and demands; ability to be flexible and adapt to different and changing situations
  • Operate computers and software related to area of assignment
  • Ability to handle emergency situations in effective manner
  • Ability to understand needs of disabled program participants and provide appropriate accommodations

Education and Experience: 

  • Minimum of 16 years of age by starting date
  • Education or training in recreation area directly related to specific position or program
  • Experience in a lead or supervisory capacity preferred
  • Successful passing of a required background check

Licenses and Certifications: 

  • Valid WA State Driver's license required. Accommodations for lack of driver's license may be considered depending on the assignment or circumstances.
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification, or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire
  • Some positions may require special licenses, certifications or training
