What are the responsibilities and job description for the Public Works Inspector position at City of Redding?
- Inspect construction of public works capital improvement projects, private land development projects, subdivisions, and encroachments.
- Grade check inspections for sewer water and storm drains, streets, curb, sidewalk, basegrade, and pavement.
- Inspect materials, workmanship, and safety of projects.
- Develop written reports, daily project diaries, prepare and verify monthly progress payments, assist project engineer in preparing and substantiating contract change orders, and keep files.

Knowledge of: - City and state construction standards.
- All facets of underground pipelines and conduit; base rock, asphalt concrete, portland cement concrete, and earthwork.
- Safety regulations.
- Surveying and engineering terms.
- Standard specifications for public works construction.
- Interact effectively with the public and employees, read plans and specifications, and effectively communicate with general contractors and engineers.
- Any combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying.
- Typical education would include a high school diploma or equivalent and two years advanced training in engineering, engineering technology, the building trades, or a related field.
- Typical experience would include three years of progressively responsible experience in public works construction inspection.
- Possession of California Department of Health Services Water Distribution Operator Grade D1 or the ability to acquire one within one year of appointment is desirable.
- Possession of Qualified Storm Water Practitioner (QSP) certification or the ability to acquire one within one year of appointment is desirable.
- Possession of the appropriate California driver's license, or the ability to acquire one within ten days of appointment.
