Job Description
Our team is hiring a Custodian at our Frank Evans Administrative Building, servicing offices, restrooms, kitchens, hallways, and work areas. This position vacuums and spot cleans carpets, sweeps floors, washes walls, windows, woodwork and counter tops, polishes and dusts furniture, cleans and stocks restrooms; removes and recycles trash, dusts high and low ledges, and cleans loading docks, entry ways, doors, elevators, escalators and stairwells. The Custodian is also responsible for maintaining custodial inventory at the worksite, submitting monthly orders for supplies based on inventory needs. Lastly, this role provides face-to-face customer service to facility users and guests, ensures building is clean and safe for use, and assists patrons and visitors as needed.
Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Functions:
- Performs cleaning and custodial duties for two assigned buildings, including offices, restrooms, kitchens, hallways, and all work areas.
- Assists in maintaining outside appearance of assigned buildings. This includes blowing, sweeping, dusting, picking up trash, and shoveling snow if necessary
- Sets up and tears down items as needed for meetings, tables, chairs, etc.
- Maintains custodial inventory for two assigned buildings, submitting orders for supplies based on inventory on a monthly basis. Manages inventory within assigned custodial supply budget
- Fills in as needed in the absence of the supervisor, and performs in a lead role in the field
- Travels daily between two supported worksite facilities and drives City vehicles to deliver and pick-up supplies and equipment for various projects, and commute to other facilities as needed to assist other custodians with tasks
Special Projects (as needed basis):
- Travels to other sites to assist other custodians with work tasks
- Assists sites in buffing, stripping, sealing and waxing floors on a regular basis, including assigned buildings but also other facilities
- Trains new custodians on custodial responsibilities for their assigned site. Maintains PRCR custodial equipment, including transporting to and from sites as needed for floor work, maintaining equipment, doing light repairs, and transporting for service
- Assists with overseeing the PRCR custodial services contract. Duties include but are not limited to conducting site inspections, documenting, and communicating issues, submitting work orders, and resolving issues found
Typical Qualifications
Education and Experience:
High School diploma or G.E.D. equivalency and less than 1 year experience in custodial, general maintenance, labor or related workOR
Any equivalent combination of training and/or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be substituted
Licensing and Certifications:
- Valid North Carolina Class C Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record, or the ability to obtain within 60 days of hire.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Two (2) years of custodial, general maintenance, labor, or related work

Work Environment and Physical Effort:
Medium: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Work Environment:
Work is typically performed in an office or similar indoor environment. Employees may occasionally work in an outdoor environment.
Work Exposures:
Work in this position does not require frequent environmental exposures. Employees may occasionally be exposed to communicable diseases, moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles or toxic, caustic chemicals or substances.
