What are the responsibilities and job description for the CDL Bus Driver-Active Adults Program position at City of Raleigh North Carolina?
The Active Adult Program is seeking a reliable CDL Bus Driver to support our program. This part-time, year-round position involves driving buses of various sizes to transport participants on day trips and Golden Years Club outings. The program serves adults ages 50 and older, with trips scheduled Monday through Friday and occasional weekends. The CDL Bus Driver will safely transport participants to destinations within the City of Raleigh, neighboring towns, and locations up to 60 miles outside of Raleigh.
Applicants should be customer service-oriented and comfortable working with older adults. Drivers should be comfortable in navigating emergency situations independently, following the policies and procedures of the City of Raleigh. Drivers must be able to assist with loading/unloading participants, operate the wheelchair lift, secure wheelchairs on the vehicle, plan the trip route, perform all pre-trip and post-trip inspections, and complete required documentation. Applicants must have a CDL license with passenger endorsement, airbrake endorsement, a clean driving record, and be able to pass a background check and controlled substance test.
Typical work hours are between 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, with occasional evening and weekend assignments as needed. Bus Drivers have flexibility in managing their schedules and generally work an average of 15 hours per pay period. This position is limited to no more than 37 hours per week and a maximum of 999 hours per calendar year.

Positions in this class typically require climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, walking, talking, hearing, and seeing.
Light Work:
Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, to move objects.
Visual Acuity:
The worker is required to have visual acuity.
Working Conditions:
Work is performed both inside and outside.
