Job Duties:
Operates pumping and purification equipment to meet water quality standards
Monitors and logs gauges, meter reading, and control panels; sees that feeders are supplied with chemicals
Cleans plant and does supervised maintenance work
Washes filters, settling and treatment basins
Performs night watch duties if required by shift
Unloads chemicals as required
Collects samples; does routine laboratory sampling
Performs simple laboratory cleaning to keep work area neat and orderly
Replenishes laboratory glassware and supplies as needed from cabinets and storage area
Performs basic laboratory tasks and tests as directed by the Lab Supervisor or Shift Supervisor
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Must be able to work in inclement weather
Must be able to walk on different surface types
Must be able to walk and stand for extending periods of time
Must be able to bend, stoop, squat, tug, pull, and reach overhead
May be required to climb out of a confined space area (water unit treatment process)
May be required to climb into a manhole
Knowledge of appropriate methods of lifting and carrying up to 70 pounds
Knowledge of pulling, and/or pushing heavy items up to 130 pounds
Must be able to push, pull, or drag a fire hose
Must be able to push, pull, or drag a manhole cover
Must be able to get into and out of a vehicle several times a day
Must wear proper safety gear and equipment suitable to job being performed
Must attend required safety training for duties performed
Must be safety conscious
Must be able to read and write
Must be able to understand chemical labels and government regulations of water treatment, all gauges and handling logs
Must not be colorblind
Must possess ability to follow instructions
Minimum Qualification Requirements:
Must possess or have the ability to obtain an Illinois Class B CDL with airbrake endorsement
