What are the responsibilities and job description for the Railway Freight Depot Warehouse Lead position at City of Prineville?
This is a lead position. The Freight Depot Warehouse Lead will be responsible for overseeing planning, organizing, logistics, and controlling the activities and processes of the Prineville Freight Depot. Duties will include equipment operation, loading and unloading freight trucks. This position will be responsible for ensuring a safe and clean warehouse environment. They will implement and maintain best practices to ensure excellent communication, and optimal service to internal and external customers of the freight depot, and the community. This is a safety sensitive position.The duties listed are intended only as Illustrative examples of the various types of work that may be performed by individuals in this classification. - Establish and maintain positive, continuous relationships with internal and external customers, including but not limited to other city employees and departments, associated businesses, citizen groups, and outside agencies.
- Coordinates and oversees the operation of the freight depot.
- Direct and oversee the daily work of the Freight Depot Warehouse Worker(s).
- Purchase parts and supplies for repairs and maintenance.
- Perform repairs and maintenance on equipment and tools.
- Operate heavy equipment including but not limited to a forklift, and food grade conveyor within the capacity of the equipment and as necessary to accomplish the required task.
- Load and unload trucks and rail cars.
- Properly handle, store, and maintain freight in the care of the railway and all associated documentation.
- Respond orally and in writing to inquiries in a professional, and courteous manner regarding business of the freight depot.
- Completes necessary administrative and hands-on tasks for the successful operation of the freight depot warehouse including clerical tasks such as emails, phone calls, and meeting participation.
- May represent the City of Prineville Railway at meetings, and/or participate on local committees and boards, including the city’s safety committee, as assigned.
- Perform all work in accordance with all federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations including mandated safety and appropriate safety standards including wearing proper PPE.
- Problem solve professionally, and safely as the need arises.
- Be available for emergency call-out.
- Operate hand, electric, and air driven tools.
- Learn and maintain the fire suppression system for the freight depot.
- Perform landscaping and maintenance around the warehouse.
- Perform other duties as assigned

In the performance of the job duties, the employee will work indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions. Noice levels can be high around machinery, requiring the use of hearing protection. Exposure to dust and particulate matter while operating equipment is inherent. The climate outdoors can be extreme.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
High school graduate or GED recipient. Two years of forklift and/or heavy equipment operating experience, two years of overseeing the work of others, and previous warehouse and/or distribution center experience; or any equivalent combination of education and progressively responsible experience that demonstrates the ability to complete the job. Applicants with CDL preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

- Operate or learn to operate a computer and software programs including but not limited to Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and QuickBooks.

- Meet deadlines and timeframes.
- Establish and maintain effective relationships.

- Obtain first-aid/CPR/AED certification.

- Must be able to pass a criminal record and background investigation.
- Valid Oregon Driver’s License with acceptable driving record.
- Forklift Operators’ certification (or ability to obtain within 12 months of hire.)
- First-aid/CPR/AED certification (or ability to obtain within 12 months of hire.)
- Pass required drug and medical screenings as mandated by regulatory entities and/or the City’s policies.
- Must not pose a threat to the health and safety of the individuals or others in the workplace.
- Preferred:
- Oregon Commercial Driver’s License.
