What are the responsibilities and job description for the Freight Depot Warehouse Worker position at City of Prineville?
NATURE OF WORK:
This is an entry level position. This team member assists the City of Prineville Railway Freight Depot Warehouse Lead with planning, organizing, and controlling activities of the Prineville Freight Depot. Implements and maintains sound and best practices to ensure excellent communication, and optimal service to the community and customers. This team member is responsible for maintaining a safe and clean warehouse environment. This is a safety sensitive position.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED/REVIEW OF WORK:
Works under the general supervision of the City of Prineville Railway General Manager.The duties listed are intended only as Illustrative examples of the various types of work that may be performed by individuals in this classification. Any of the following duties may be performed. These examples are not necessarily performed by all incumbents and do not include all specific essential functions and responsibilities the incumbent may be expected to perform.
- Establish and maintain positive, continuous relationships with other City departments, associated businesses, citizen groups, and outside agencies.
- May represent the City of Prineville Railway at meetings and/or participate on local committees, and boards, including the City’s safety committee, as assigned.
- Perform work in accordance with all federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations including mandated safety and appropriate safety standards.
- Purchase parts and supplies for repair and maintenance.
- Operate the city’s heavy equipment including but not limited to a forklift, within the capacity of the equipment and as necessary to accomplish the required task.
- Load and unload trucks and rail cars.
- Properly handle, store, and maintain freight in the care of the railway.
- Minor landscaping around the warehouse.
- Maintain and promote excellent relations, and communications with coworkers, customers, patrons, drivers, and vendors.
- Respond orally to public inquiries in a professional, and courteous manner, referring inquiries to another employee as appropriate.
- Be available for emergency call out.
- Professionally, and responsibly take part in problem solving.
- Operation of hand, electric, and air driven tools.
- Actively participate on the safety committee and maintain responsibility for the safety needs of the freight depot.
- Learn, and maintain the fire suppression system for the freight depot.
- Provide excellent customer service to internal, and external customers including but not limited to truck operators, and logistic coordinators.
- Other duties as assigned.

Manual dexterity and coordination are required to perform the work. This is used while operating equipment such as tools, and equipment, computer keyboards; calculator; telephones, and other related tools and equipment.

In the performance of the job duties, the employee will work indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions. Noice levels can be high around machinery, requiring the use of hearing protection. Exposure to dust and particulate matter while operating equipment is inherent. The climate outdoors can be extreme.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or GED and two years of forklift and/or heavy equipment operating experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Ability to read, interpret, and follow documents such as safety notices, rules, regulations, operation, and maintenance instruction manuals.
- Ability to operate or learn to operate a computer and software programs including but not limited to Excel, Word, Outlook, and QuickBooks.
- Knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions common to railway and warehousing areas.
- Knowledge of the practices, methods, materials and tools used in the warehousing system.
- Skilled in operation of tools including hand tools, electric tools, and air driven tools.
- Ability to establish and maintain an effective preventative maintenance program.
- Ability to carry out assigned projects to completion in a timely manner and as expected.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, constituents, vendors, customers, and the public.
- Ability to perform mathematical equations.
- Ability to obtain First-Aid/CPR certification if not already in possession.
- Ability to recognize potential problems and take appropriate corrective action.
REQUIRED
- Valid Oregon Driver’s License with acceptable driving record.
- Forklift Operators’ certification (or ability to obtain within 12 months of hire.)
- First-Aid/CPR Certification (or ability to obtain within 12 months of hire.)
- Must pass a criminal record and background investigation.
- Must pass required drug, vision, and medical screenings as mandated by regulatory entities and/or the City’s policies.
- The individual shall not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of the individual or others in the workplace.
- Valid Commercial Driver's License
