City of Portsmouth's Recreation Department is looking for 2 Afterschool Program Instructors to lead engaging activities and help create a safe, fun, and enriching environment for children in the community.
Starting pay range for this position is $18-$20 an hour depending on experience.
This is a part time position, 20-30 hours a week, and will work the following schedule:
Monday-Friday: 2pm-6pm
Monday-Friday: 2pm-6pm

NATURE OF WORK
Incumbents will actively participate in afterschool activities, including, arts and crafts, sports, games, drama, and other enrichment opportunities. Provide a safe and fun learning environment for elementary-aged children (ages 5-11) while practicing and modeling all City safety protocols.
SUPERVISION
Incumbents works under the general direction of the Recreation Director, Recreation Supervisor, or their designee. Incumbent plans and carries out daily work with a degree of independence and teamwork. Performance is subject to review according to the City's personnel plan through observation, reports and the results achieved.

4. Demonstrates the use of recreational equipment and teaches participants the principles, techniques, and safety procedures for each activity.
5. Greets new arrivals and introduces them to other participants and explains facility rules.
6. Interacts professionally with parents and the public.
7. Reports participant and parent complaints to leadership and work to resolve issues.
8. Must attend staff meetings and orientation during the school year.
9. Performs other related duties as required.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

ENVIRONMENT, WORKING CONDITIONS, PHYSICAL AND MENTAL EFFORT
Work is performed indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions. Must be able to physically manage and support children when needed for safety in general afterschool activities. Position includes limited physical requirements including lifting and assisting children weighing approximately 20-100 pounds. Able to lead and participate in activities which include, but not limited to, running, team building initiatives, and physical games.
MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Must be 18 years or older and have a high school diploma or have earned a graduate equivalent diploma (GED). Previous experience working in camp, youth programming, recreation, working with children, or related fields is preferred.
