The Position
Councilor Dunphy’s Office is seeking an Outreach Support & Communications Intern to join the team!
Internship Duration: 3 months, with option for both parties to extend to 6 months or 1 year.
Job Appointment: Casual, Part-Time Work Schedule: Flexible hours between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM; part-time and full-time opportunities available.
Work Schedule: Flexible hours between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM; part-time opportunities available: 12-20 hours per week depending on candidate availability and office workload. May occasionally require working in the evening.
Work Location: Hybrid- Employee will report to City Hall, 1 221 SW 4th Ave, Portland, OR 97204 or Nick Fish Building, 10560 NE Halsey St, Portland, OR 97220 . Remote work must be performed within Oregon or Washington. For more information, click here . This position may require some travel to various locations throughout Portland.
Benefits: This position is not eligible for benefits.
Language Pay Differential: Employees who speak one or more languages in addition to English and who use their language skill to assist the community, may receive additional pay. More about the process can be found here.

- Developing and Managing Campaigns and content creation
- Familiarity with local government operations, policies, and public service
- Familiarity with how public campaigns are designed to inform and engage the public
- Familiarity with public engagement to understand how to effectively engage with the public and represent an organization

- Ability to provide customer service to constituents.
- Ability to work independently on project-focused goals.
- Ability to communication in writing and verbally to a variety of communities especially D1 Constituents.
- Knowledge of social media platforms (such as Facebook, Bluesky, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.) and the ability to create engaging content
- Ability to build and maintain relationship with different audience such as Community Based Leaders, D1 Constituents, Council Staff, and City Employees.
