Facilities Superintendent
The City of Portage is looking for a dedicated professional to join our Department of Public Works!
What You'll Do:
The selected candidate will manage and maintain the general upkeep and repair of the city's buildings and immediate grounds, including custodial work. This role monitors and troubleshoots heating and ventilation equipment, and the electrical, mechanical, and structural conditions of all city buildings. This position provides supervision to the Facilities Maintenance Technicians and Facilities Cleaning Specialists.
What We're Looking For:
- Bachelor’s degree and State of Michigan residential builders license preferred.
- Three years of prior diagnostic, troubleshooting, and preventative maintenance and managerial experience, or other related experience and/or training required; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- HVAC, electrical, and plumbing repair experience preferred.
- A valid State of Michigan Driver’s License is required, with a Class A CDL preferred.
- Ability to respond to common inquiries or concerns from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, blueprints, construction drawings, site plans, financial reports, and legal documents, and write professional communications for summary reports and necessary recommendations.
- Ability to communicate professionally to all levels of management, contractors, and the general public, as well as federal, state, and local agencies.
- Proficiency in the use of a PC (MS Office) and other office equipment.

- Half-day Fridays! Monday – Thursday, 7 AM-4:30 PM, and Friday, 7 AM – 11 AM. Extended or additional hours may be necessary at certain times of the year based on departmental needs, on-call responsibilities, weather, etc.
