What are the responsibilities and job description for the Security Guard I position at CITY OF PLEASANTON?
Under general supervision, the part-time Security Guard will provide a visible security presence, monitor and patrol city facilities/grounds, control access, deter unauthorized activity, and maintain logs and incident reports.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Patrol buildings, grounds, parking lots and perimeter of assigned city facility/area.
- Monitor access/egress points (doors, gates), check for locked/secured entries.
- Operate security equipment (e.g., alarms, security cameras and audio, two-way radio).
- Provide visitor/employee/contractor assistance and monitor for unauthorized persons.
- Create and maintain accurate logs, incident/inspection reports, and submit information to supervisor.
- Assist law enforcement or city personnel as needed.
- Monitor for safety hazards, suspicious activity, or policy violations and report immediately to the appropriate staff or emergency services; does not detain, restrain, or physically intervene.
- In the event of a fire, medical incident, or other emergency, notify authorities, follow established protocols, and assist only within training and city policy.
- Work evenings/weekends/holidays as assigned not to exceed 30 hours per week.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or GED or equivalent.
- Valid Texas Driver’s License
- Background check and drug screening required. Additional training or certification may be required if job duties change.
- 1 year experience in security, law enforcement or security-related work.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- 3 years experience in security, law enforcement or security-related work.
- Security guard license or certification (state or local)
- Good verbal and written communication skills, computer proficiency (reporting, incident log software)

- Use basic computer skills to operate security software, cameras, alarms, radios, and reporting systems.
- Work effectively without direct supervision, making appropriate notifications as required.
- Interact professionally and courteously even during stressful or confrontational situations.
- Walk, stand, and move throughout facilities and outdoor areas for extended periods in all weather conditions.
