This position is only open to current City of Plantation employees.
This is non-exempt position working in the City of Plantation's Information Technology Department. This is a technical position consisting of professional and technical work in the implementation, configuration and support of computers, servers, peripherals and various application software packages in a client-server environment. The employee in this classification works independently with limited supervision and is required to exercise initiative and display exceptional troubleshooting capabilities. May be required to work outside normal scheduled hours.
Employees are hired as AT WILL employees that serve at the pleasure of the City and may be terminated at any time with or without cause.
Examples of Duties
Assists in the installation, configuration and maintenance of servers and network devices.
Install, configures and maintains PC hardware, peripheral and application software.
Assists users with Microsoft Office Suite and other application software.
Assists with Network and Server monitoring and alerting systems.
Monitors IT Systems / Software to report problems and initiate corrective action.
Recommend and implement hardware and software improvements and upgrades.
Monitors help desk system for ticket assignment/resolution.
Responsible for daily backup systems.
Performs related work as required and as directed.
This position does not have final procurement authority.
Typical Qualifications
Advanced knowledge of and the ability to install, configure and maintain PC/server hardware, peripheral, network and application software.
Advanced knowledge of the Microsoft Operating Systems and Office Suite programs.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Active Directory and Network best practices and procedures.
Ability to learn new software and hardware technologies.
Ability to work with confidential data and maintain such confidence.
Ability to prioritize tasks and work independently to complete tasks in a timely manner.
Ability to troubleshoot hardware and software problems effectively and efficiently.
Ability to work with various levels of leadership within all departments.
Ability to work with outside vendors and/or contractors.
Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing to a diverse employee population.
Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with other employees, City officials and the general public.
Ability to climb 6’ ladder and lift up to 50lbs.
DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
Bachelor's Degree with major course work in computer science or appropriate field supplemented by two (2) years of experience in systems/network management. Experience with Active Directory, SQL maintenance, cellular / wireless connectivity and WAN technologies preferred. Any equivalent combination of education, experience and training which provides the required knowledge, abilities and skills may be considered.
Work Environment
This is a designated "Recovery" classification in the City's Emergency Operations Plan and will require the employee occupying this position to work for declared emergencies.
Attendance at National Incident Management System (NIMS) training at the appropriate level is mandatory.
