Job Description Summary
Under general supervision operates various maintenance equipment to mow City lots vacant lots and right of way areas. May perform other park duties as assigned.
Job Responsibilities

Essential duties and responsibilities may include; but are not limited to; the following:
- Performs grounds and tree maintenance; conducts mowing; edging; hoeing; raking; shoveling and hauling of materials; prunes and trims shrubs and trees.
- Performs general maintenance of lots and right of way; removes various debris.
- Operates and maintains various maintenance equipment; including mowers; lawn tractors; front-end loaders; rotary tillers; trucks; back hoes; sprayers and power trimmers.
- Performs general maintenance and repair of maintenance equipment; machinery and vehicles.
- Performs general shop maintenance; uses welders; grinders and cutting torches; uses various hand and power tools.
- Provides assistance to Parks work crews as needed.
- Serves on a rotating on-call work schedule.
- Provides assistance to other work crews as needed. Supports the relationship between the City of Plainview and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with citizens; visitors; and City staff; maintains confidentiality of work-related issues and City information; performs other duties as required or assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
High School diploma or equivalent; AND two years of experience in grounds maintenance; including shrub and tree maintenance and maintenance/repair; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION:
- Possession of a valid Texas Class B Commercial Driver’s License or ability to obtain within 6 (six) months.
Physical Demands and Working Environment
Work is performed in an outdoor work environment. May be exposed to dangerous machinery; extreme weather conditions; potential physical harm and hazardous chemicals. May be required to climb ladders and work in confined spaces. May be required to lift and carry items weighing up to 100 pounds.
Knowledge and Skills (preferred)
Knowledge: City policies and procedures. Grounds tree and shrub maintenance and repair practices and methods. Construction principles and practices. Irrigation and plumbing systems. Customer service principles and practices. Skill in: Operating motorized maintenance equipment and vehicles. Using power and hand tools. Performing routine maintenance of vehicles and equipment. Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with other City staff vendors suppliers and the general public. Communicating effectively verbally and in writing.
