The City of Pittsfield’s Recreation Department is seeking outgoing, qualified individuals to fill the seasonal position of Playground Leader. Under the direction of the Recreation and Special Events Coordinator, the Playground Leader is responsible for administering and supervising the summer playground program in their designated park, working with children 6 to 13 years of age.

Responsibilities
The incumbent works in various dynamic locations. While performing the duties of Playground Leader the incumbent is required to: interact and communicate frequently with the public, government officials, other staff members and boards, and/or third parties transacting business with the City. Frequent periods of outside, sometimes inclement weather.
Physical Requirements
Must be capable of moving freely through the parks, interacting with the program attendees. Must be capable of carrying at least 25 pounds.
HOURS
40 hours per week.
Monday – Friday, 9:00am – 4:00pm
SALARY
$17.99 - $23.37 per hour.
Hourly rate commensurate with experience.

Responsibilities
- Must work effectively with Playground Supervisor and members of the public and respond to inquiries and complaints in a positive and professional manner.
- Supervises program attendees, reports problems or issues to the supervisor.
- Implements daily structured programs, aids in preparation of final program evaluation.
- Assures adequate supplies and materials are available for program implementation.
- Responsible for keeping the park grounds clean of all debris and assists in keeping the restrooms and storage areas clean and presentable.
- Attends program staff meetings and/or trainings as directed by the supervisor.
- Performs other duties as assigned or required.
- Must be able to work the duration of the program. The 2025 program runs from July 7th - August 15th.
- Must be 15 years of age or older.
- Candidates under the age of 18 must provide an Employment Permit (working papers), which may be obtained from the Pittsfield School Administration Building.
