DEPARTMENT: DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC UTILITIES

The Department of Public Utilities is seeking to fill the position of Meter Reader. The Meter Reader is responsible for accurately reading and recording water meter readings. This role requires walking or driving through designated routes and ensuring readings are collected efficiently and accurately. The Meter Reader may also inspect meters and connections for defects, damage, and unauthorized connections.

Responsibilities
While performing the duties of the Meter Reader, the incumbent is required to: interact and communicate frequently with the public, government officials, other staff members and boards, and/or third parties transacting business with the City. Work is performed both indoors and outdoors, sometimes in inclement weather.
Physical Requirements
Physical ability and agility sufficient to drive, stand and walk long distances in all weather conditions; enter manholes, vaults or other locations where meters may be found; climb ladders, read meters etc. Lifts/moves objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
HOURS
Monday – Friday, 40 hours per week
7:00am – 3:30pm
SALARY
Starting salary $16.61 - $17.62 per hour
Annual increases up to $22.99

Responsibilities
- Reads domestic and industrial utility meters as required and records readings for billing purposes.
- Counts plumbing fixtures and records numbers for billing purposes.
- Performs incidental & related work such as preparation of historical records of water use, account utilization and discontinuance, and general records upkeep.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Neat & legible handwriting; Basic math skills and proficiency in using electronic devices.
- Strong computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft office programs such as Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
