ABOUT THIS POSITION
The Water Services Department is looking to hire a Senior Utility Technician for its Wastewater Collection Division. The Wastewater Collection Division is a 24-hour, 7-day a week operation responsible for the maintenance and repair of over 5000 miles of sanitary sewer main lines with over 110,000 sanitary sewer structures and 440,000 service connections. The division has four area maintenance yards, a closed-circuit television inspection section, and a lift station section.
Responsibilities include:
- Operates hydraulic and mechanical sewer cleaning equipment;
- Leads crews in the maintenance of the City's sanitary sewer system;
- Performs sampling of sanitary sewer for odor and corrosion control, prepares, and forwards reports of data to section / yard management;
- Directs, leads, trains, and participates in the work of a small crew engaged in skilled installation, maintenance, repair, or routine maintenance of the wastewater collection system;
- Leads excavation, shoring, backfilling of trenches and sewer line cleaning, jet hydro vac, and materials to jobsites and oversees projects to completion.
Senior Utility Technicians may be required to perform duties in a specialized functional area in support of wastewater collection activities. Instruction and general supervision are received from the Utility Crew Chief who reviews work by making job site visits and/or reviewing reports.

SALARY
Pay Range: $26.18 - $42.64 per hour.
Hiring Range: $26.18 - $33.41 per hour.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Three years of experience performing semi-skilled work in the installation, maintenance, and repairs in wastewater collection systems including verifiable experience in equipment operations relative to the assignment.
- Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.
- Must possess a Grade I Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) Wastewater Collection certification at the time of application.
- A Grade II Wastewater Collection certification must be obtained by the end of the twelve-month probationary period.
- Applicants are responsible for all testing costs.
- All positions are required to pass an Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) medical examination, and possess a class A Commercial Driver License (CDL) with a Tank Vehicle (N) endorsement at the time of application.
- Appropriate certification must be maintained as a condition of employment in this job classification.
- All finalists for positions are subject to a criminal background check applicable to the department or position.
- These positions require the use of personal or City vehicles on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid driver's license and have an acceptable driving record. Use of a personal vehicle for City business will be prohibited if the employee is not authorized to drive a City vehicle or if the employee does not have personal insurance coverage. Work Conditions:
- Wastewater Collection employees are required to participate on mandatory, scheduled standby rotations.
- Working irregular hours, shifts, weekends, holidays, evenings may be required.
- Moving objects weighing up to 50 pounds may be required.
