The Athletic Specialist supports the operational management of the City’s athletic facilities and programs by coordinating field allocation, assisting with athletic program logistics, and providing administrative support for athletics operations. The position helps ensure consistent application of the City’s Field Use Policy and contributes to maintaining safe, organized, and well-managed athletic facilities for community use. Responsibilities include scheduling athletic field use, communicating with user groups, assisting with program implementation, and coordinating daily operational needs across recreation and parks staff.
- Coordinates daily and seasonal athletic field allocations in accordance with the City’s Field Use Policy.
- Reviews and processes field requests, monitors field availability, evaluates scheduling priorities, and communicates approved allocations to leagues, organizations, and internal staff.
- Monitors field and facility conditions and reports maintenance, safety, or operational concerns.
- Coordinates with parks maintenance staff regarding field readiness and assists in ensuring facilities remain safe, clean, and operational for practices, games, and events.
- Responds to inquiries from the public, leagues, and community organizations regarding field use, schedules, and policies.
- Maintains records, provides accurate information, and routes requests or issues to appropriate staff when necessary.
- Assists with coordination and implementation of athletic programs, tournaments, and special events.
- Supports logistics such as scheduling coordination, participant assistance, and operational setup to ensure program activities align with facility availability.
- Helps ensure compliance with City field use policies, facility agreements, and safety standards.
- Communicates facility rules and operational requirements to user groups and monitors compliance during scheduled activities.
- Remain accessible via personal cell phone during work hours for addressing job-related matters or emergencies, using city-approved applications for communication and response.
- Other related duties as assigned.
Relatable Work Experience: One (1) year of experience in athletics, recreation operations, program coordination, or facility support preferred. Experience in parks and recreation environments is beneficial.
Training, Licenses, and Certifications: CPR, First Aid, and AED certification required within two (2) weeks of hire.
Disclaimer: Unless otherwise stated, applicants are permitted to substitute two years of related full-time experience for one year of higher education or one year of related higher education for two years of experience in order to meet the minimum requirements of the job. One year of full-time experience is defined as 30 or more hours worked per week for 12 months. One year of higher education is defined as 30 credit hours completed at an accredited college or university.
