Engaged in the repair and maintenance of water lines for the City of Pelham.
To perform the job successfully, an individual should demonstrate the following competencies:
Education/Experience
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) plus three years related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Certificates And Licenses
Valid Alabama Driver's License.
Language Ability
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few variables in standardized situations.
Computer Skills
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of word processing software. Ability to use tablets and database software.
- Connects water service lines to water mains.
- Places barricades, signs, and traffic cones around construction and/or excavation sites to protect operators and the public.
- Lays, maintains, repairs, connects, tests, and disinfects water mains, valves, hydrants and other appurtenances.
- Works on-call shifts to assists with emergencies.
- Assists in cut-offs and reconnect service and work orders.
- Installs, repairs and replaces fire hydrants.
- Taps into water mains, install and repair service lines and meters; set and retrieve meters.
- Excavates trenches and install shoring. Detects hazardous conditions and correct before entry.
- Performs line location when needed.
- Assists customers with issues related to water lines or meters.
- Ensures truck is stocked with parts and supplies, such as, meters, risers, meter boxes, curb stops, tools, safety vests, etc.
- Operates and repairs equipment such as back hoe, jackhammers, pumps, air compressors, and other equipment used in repair and maintenance of water lines.
- May operate dump truck (with current CDL license).
