What are the responsibilities and job description for the Pound Keeper position at City Of Pawtucket?
Responsible for the cleaning, disinfecting and all aspects of maintaining the animal shelter in a clean and orderly manner. Provides proper care and maintenance of animals housed at the facility, including exercise and enrichment. Handles clerical and reception duties and ensures public access to the animal shelter. Aids in processing adoption applications, relays animal complaints to appropriate staff and completes other duties as assigned.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Feeds and provides water to the animals
Cleans, disinfects and otherwise maintains the animal shelter in a clean and orderly manner
Handles daily laundry, dishes and disinfects equipment.
Receives, sorts and appropriately stores product donations and supply deliveries
Provides exercise / enrichment for the animals at the facility.
Assists with the bathing and grooming of animals.
Answers phone calls from the public pertaining to impounded animals or complaints.
Relays messages to appropriate staff members in the field
Handles clerical duties and maintains proper records
Assists with the adoption process
Processes payments of fees and /or donations
Ensures public access to the animal shelter
Assists at the Rabies Clinic, Fundraisers and special events.
Performing related duties as required by the Shelter Administrator or Sr. Animal Control Officer
QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); previous experience working with animals, and the ability to work with animals in a humane manner. Must have interest in aiding the public caring for animals. Must have knowledge of animal shelter disease prevention protocols.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals, as well as interpreting the General Laws regarding animal cruelty. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization and deal effectively with the general public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Ability to arrive at decisions based on careful analysis of all factors
