This position has specific assigned responsibilities that are essential to the operation of the Recreation Department. Working under limited direction, this position is responsible for formulating work, plans/approaches, and accomplishing goals to positively affect the operation. Train staff and will manage, at times. Prepares reports and budget for assigned area. This position works a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
This is a part time benefits eligible position, meaning, the employee is consistently, regularly scheduled to work30 – 32 hours per week and are eligible for health insurance, the employee wellness center, personal leave, and the Florida Retirement System.
Outdoor Recreation Programmer– Park monitor program, Lilac Pickleball facility and tournament management, permitting and tournament coordination for all outdoor athletic facilities, management of online sport facility rentals, adult sports programming, youth sports planning and allocation, and more!
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
This position is supervised by the assigned Manager or Supervisor.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
Will be responsible for the supervision of assigned part-time staff and volunteers.

- Responsible for the complete execution of assigned responsibilities within the framework of Department vision, goals, and Department/City policy and procedure.
- Accomplishes the position’s requirements through research, applying professional knowledge, and utilizing best practices.
- As assigned, develops and monitors budgets for the area of responsibility or program.
- Recognizes concerns and formulates solutions to address the situation.
- Train and coach subordinate staff.
- Actively participates in the division and department-wide discussions about goals and objectives to serve the community.
- May serve as a manager on duty for recreational facilities, when needed.
- If necessary, drive passenger vehicles and busses to transport program participants and/or pickup goods/supplies
- Develops and carries out program and lesson plans assigned for the position.
- Acts in a lead role in the operation of recreation facilities and programs ensuring that patrons are receiving the highest level of customer service and reacts swiftly to handle any comments, concerns, or questions effectively.
- Requires recognition with emergency situations and ability to take action based upon position responsibility and training.
- Recognizes and takes appropriate action to diffuse tense situations and to turn potentially bad customer service experiences into positive ones.
- Assumes a leadership role of other part-time staff
- Train and schedule staff; evaluates employee's work performance.
- May supervise part-time staff, at times.
- Responsible to maintain all records in accordance with the Records Retention Law
- As the leader in the areas assigned, take responsibility for any issue, concern, or project; and sees it through to completion.
- Responsible for communicating positively and effectively with peers, managers, patrons, and the public through verbal interactions and written correspondence.
- Monitor patrons’ health, welfare, and safety utilizing facilities and participation in programs. Assumes responsibility and takes action accordingly.
- Effectively and extensively utilize software programs as necessary in assigned areas.
- Utilizes the phone system effectively and efficiently.
- Responsible for applying training to assignments and continually seeking out information to gain knowledge to better serve the community.
- Applies emergency management training to recognize and assist in a crisis.
- Performs any other related duties as requested or assigned.
- Has a high school diploma or some high school with the required certifications.
- Some college level or higher trade training in related fields preferred.
- Has a combination of three years of related experience and further education/training.
- Has the required certifications if required by a position under this classification.
- Is at least eighteen (18) years of age.
- Valid State of Florida Driver’s License with good driving record required.
- Annual Hands-Only CPR training as provided by the Department or able to obtain within six (6) months of hire.
- Positions assigned to the Riverside Youth Enrichment Center or the Aquatic Complex must have or obtain Infant, Child, and Adult CPR and First Aid Certification as required by licensing or certification.
