- Receives property and evidence from law enforcement personnel; inventories, documents, tags, and secures items in the evidence room.
- Inspects and audits all incoming property and evidence to ensure packaging, labeling, and submission meet established policies and procedures.
- Maintains clear, accurate records of all property and evidence received, transferred, submitted for laboratory examination, and disposed of.
- Facilitates or transports evidence to court and testifies as needed regarding chain of custody and/or receipt of testing results.
- Conducts periodic audits of property rooms to ensure full accountability for all items.
- Responds appropriately to requests for copies of digital media and requests to view evidence.
- Communicates the status of evidence and property to staff, officers, attorneys, other law enforcement agencies, and the public.
- Inputs detailed records into computer systems and maintains accurate data entries.
- Coordinates the return of property to owners or properly disposes of property and evidence upon final court disposition.
- Assists in responding to Sunshine Law requests.
- Transports evidence to laboratories and other designated locations for further processing while maintaining chain of custody.
- Monitors evidence room facilities and equipment to ensure proper functionality and compliance with operational requirements.
- Maintains the evidence processing room and associated inventory.
- Returns or disposes of property as necessary.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of modern office equipment and computer software, including Microsoft applications; familiarity with Omnigo RMS systems preferred.
- Knowledge of law enforcement principles and operational techniques, including applicable state statutes, municipal ordinances, regulations, and effective interpersonal communication, preferred.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team to support the City’s and department’s missions.
- Ability to understand, follow, and apply written instructions.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, coworkers, and the general public.
- Ability to manage public interactions—including challenging situations—in a professional, courteous, and efficient manner.

- Knowledge of standard office procedures and practices, including business correspondence, filing, and operation of office equipment.

- Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Must not be a convicted felon and must meet the minimum qualifications established by the FBI and the Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP) Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) security policy.
- Must possess a valid Missouri driver’s license
- Minimum of two years relevant clerical experience preferred.
