What are the responsibilities and job description for the Utilities Locator position at City of Oldsmar?
Job Summary
Semi-skilled work locating water, reclaimed water, sewer, storm drain, and other various City utilities. Work must be completed with close attention to detail and visual verification, when possible, of utilities that are being located. Works under the general supervision of the Supervisor.
Education and Experience:
¨ High School graduation or possession of an acceptable equivalency.
¨ Preferred one-year experience in performing duties involving locating underground facilities, Trimble GPS, GPR, and use of various other locating items.
Responsibilities
- Locates underground utility lines for Sunshine 811 dig tickets.
- Uses utility maps, as-built drawings, G.I.S. information, and various pipe and electronic locating equipment.
- Utilizes stakes, flags, and/or paint to mark the location of underground facilities.
- Prepares various reports, forms, and memos to document work completed, and problems encountered and/or resolved.
- Coordinates with the City IT G.I.S. Analyst and Public Works Utility Operations Coordinator to update information when field items are incorrect, not mapped, or have changed due to repairs.
- Investigates and prepares detailed written documentation on excavations that result in damage to City facilities.
- Assists in shut down of mains or repairs or connections.
- Provides support and backup to the collection/distribution system staff.
- Operates and maintains mechanical and electronic locating equipment.
- Informs the public whenever possible regarding locating utilities on private property prior to marking any utilities.
- Coordinates with Technical Services regarding Right-of-way permits.
- GPS pinpoint with Trimble GPS handheld equipment.
- Clean valve boxes, paint valve lids, and exercise valves if needed.
- Maintains clean, neat and organized work areas, equipment and tools.
- Maintain detailed, written log of daily activities, and other documents as required.
- Performs tasks of Distribution and Collection Trainee and Meter Reader as part of Distribution and Collection Team:
- Participates in installation, maintenance, or repair of water distribution, reclaimed water distribution, sewer collections, or similar systems; including valves and meters.
- Taps water, reclaimed water, and sewer lines, and flushes & maintains fire hydrants, cuts pipes, and operates pumps.

Pay: From $19.19 per hour
