Job Overview
We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Environmental Educator to join our team. Develop and coordinate staff and public environmental outreach programs and special events. Work is performed under the general direction of the Environmental Management Supervisor.
Responsibilities
- Creates and plans educational materials and workshops for the community
- Assist in updating and maintaining Public Works and Sustainability webpages.
- Provides content for print and social media use.
- Provides technical assistance, guidance, and develop programs to enhance the City’s Stormwater Management, Solid Waste & Recycling, and Water Conservation programs.
- Assist in obtaining grants for environmental initiatives.
- Maintains energy and water monitoring/conservation program for City facilities. Helps with identifying saving measures.
- Facilitates and implements environmental policies and strategic goals of sustainability.
- Coordinates education and training of City employees on environmental policies.
- Meets with citizens and outside organizations to answer questions and present information on environmental and sustainability related issues.
- Assist Environmental Specialist, as needed, with Industrial Pretreatment program, illicit discharge investigating, and chemical or waste spill reporting as required by regulatory agencies.
- Attends applicable meetings and workshops.
- Tracks education and training for Public Works Department.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Extensive knowledge of all areas of environmental science and sustainability measures.
- Ability to plan, direct and coordinate several projects simultaneously.
- Ability to create a positive image to the public relative to City environmental programs.
- Ability to work independently or in a team environment with various City Departments.
- Excellent communicator with experience in public speaking and event coordination.
- Ability to operate a PC in a network environment
Education and Experience
- Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, Sustainability or a related field.
(A comparable amount of training or experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.)
Licenses, Certifications or Registrations:
- Possession of a valid Florida driver’s license.
Pay: From $25.05 per hour
Expected hours: 40.0 per week
