Summary

This position exercises independent judgement and authority in directing park operations at Bayside Park at 3

rd Street to include Ocean Bowl Skate Park and the east and west blocks of 3

rd street. Work includes supervising staff, managing budgets, and ensuring safe, efficient and high-quality recreational services. The supervisor serves as the primary decision-maker for park operations and is accountable for park security, maintenance, staff performance, program effectiveness and facility management.

This position will have a seasonal salary reclassification.

The job is 40 hours a week with required weekend and holiday hours.

## Job Duties

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following and all other duties as assigned:

  • Manages Ocean Bowl Skate Park to include: program operation and supervision, oversees routine maintenance of park facilities, assisting public, cash accounting and deposit preparation, receipting and registering daily entrants, memberships and events, data entry, facility security, program set up and breakdown, administrator and decision-maker during operating hours.
  • Independently manages Bayside Park facilities, east and west blocks. Communicates with appropriate City departments as necessary for park operation needs (e.g., Parks, Police, Special Events, RandP Admin. and Programs, etc.).
  • Develops and implements operational procedures, and standards to ensure consistency, safety, and compliance across all park functions.
  • Hires, supervises, schedules, and evaluates part-time and seasonal staff; makes recommendations and decisions regarding hiring, discipline, promotion, and termination. Hires contracted staff for instructional programs
  • Prepares budget requests; authorizes expenditures, and purchases supplies for Ocean Bowl and Bayside Park when applicable. Negotiates contracts/agreements.
  • Tracks and provides analysis of park usage. Oversees cash handling procedures and internal controls. Prepares quarterly and annual report summaries for skate park operations
  • Reviews the use of first aid supplies ordering and stocking as needed
  • Assess the need for minor first aid situation and performs minor first aid as needed
  • Oversees rental program park-wide to include maintaining inventory of rental equipment and sales merchandise.
  • Plans, coordinates, develops, implements and evaluates recreational activities at skate park and Bayside Park @ 3

rd Street to fill the needs of the community

  • Plans and implements Department wide Community Events and Programs at other facilities
  • Prepares/conducts studies of recreational needs; recommends programs to fill needs; provides feasibility information
  • Evaluates and prepares reports on recreation programs; modifies and improves programs as needed; speaks to community groups
  • Inspects facilities on daily basis for security and maintenance needs, including but not limited to public restrooms, playground, basketball courts, tennis/pickleball courts, and skate park.
  • Assists in marketing and promoting of facility; creates fliers, attends job fairs, administers social media and performs positive public relations
  • Acts as liaison to Parks division staff about maintenance and issues related to park; creates work orders
  • Reviews and monitors cameras park-wide, using the collected information to guide decision making for the park.
  • Maintains electronic lock system for park security and is the contact for problems involving the system.

EDUCATION And/or EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelors degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university or four years related experience and training equivalent; or
  • Combination of education and experience
  • Minimum of one year experience supervising employees

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

  • Valid drivers license required
  • Current CPR and Basic First Aid Certification preferred

Language Skills

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and the general public.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, proportions, and percentages. Ability to add; subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Other Qualifications

Must be able to think and act quickly and remain calm under emergency situations. Must be able to make decisions promptly and work unsupervised. Must have working knowledge of computers and must be able to work within the Departments point-of-sale/registration system. Knowledge of the skating industry preferred.
