The City of Oakdale is excited to announce a great employment opportunity for an experienced and senior landscape maintenance professional. This position is one of three Maintenance Worker Supervisors and is in charge of our entire Parks Division (approximately 20 employees). This includes our Lighting & Landscape Maintenance Districts (LLMD), all of our Parks and Sports Parks, and other city owned properties. This position is part of our Management Confidential Bargaining Group. This person reports directly to the Public Works Superintendent and has complete oversight over all parks personnel and the parks budget. 

JOB SUMMARY:
 Performs technical, functional, and administrative supervisory leadership of public works maintenance crews, to include Maintenance Worker I & II, Senior Maintenance Workers and Equipment Operators.
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 
 
The duties and responsibilities specified below are representative of the range of duties assigned to this class and are not intended to be an inclusive list. 
 
General 
  • Supervises work being performed by crews; assigns, directs and monitors the work of subordinates.
  • Develop and implement division goals, policies and procedures
  • Coordinates a variety of assigned projects and contracts.
  • Prepares division budget, assists in budget implementation, participates in the forecast of funds needed for staffing, equipment, materials and supplies, and administers the approved budget.
  • Reviews work and controls the quality of work being performed.
  • Develops work plans, procedures, and schedules.
  • Monitors and controls supplies, materials and equipment.
  • Performs annual appraisals for maintenance worker employees under their charge.
  • Maintains awareness of safety procedures and practices them on work assignments.
  • Coordinates and manages and may perform the preparation of trenches for water and sewer installation and the backfilling of trenches and the repair of streets upon completion of work.
  • Coordinates and may perform the maintenance, replacement, and repair of water and sewer lines and the troubleshooting of pump lift stations.
  • Investigates and responds to citizen complaints and suggestions.
  • Maintains logs of daily activities.
  • Maintains liaison with State, County, Local and other officials regarding department operations.
  • Assures compliance with Local, State, and Federal regulations.
  • May assist in other areas of public works operations.
  • May provide technical assistance as necessary.
  • Attend and present at City Council meetings, as required.
  • May serve as Primary On-Call Duty, as needed.
  • Performs related duties as required.
 Parks and Facilities
  • May perform semi-skilled and skilled grounds, gardening, and turf maintenance duties involved in the development, maintenance and construction of landscaped areas, parks, playgrounds, and public facilities.
  • Inspects new park construction to ensure that it meets applicable standards.
  • Oversees installation irrigation and sprinkler systems.
  • Oversees emergency repairs to irrigation and sprinkler systems
  • Prepares, manages, and implements budgets for Lighting and Landscape Maintenance Districts.
  • Reviews work of private contractor's operating in Lighting and Landscape Maintenance Districts.
  • Reviews, revises, and manages Lighting and Landscape Maintenance District Contracts as needed.

ABILITY TO
  • Plan, organize, and supervise the work of a multiple crews of maintenance workers in performance of duties at a various work sites.
  • Train, supervise, and evaluate staff performance.
  • Maintain up to date knowledge of regulations.
  • Operate a computer and related software (outlook, excel, word)
  • Operate and maintain heavy equipment used in public works/parks operations.
  • Read, understand and apply safety procedures in operating equipment and performing work assignments.
  • Read, understand and implement schematic diagrams and blueprints.
  • Establish, maintain effective relationships.
  • Meet schedules and time lines.
  • Maintain records and prepare reports, pay bills, maintain budget, etc.
  • Understand, follow oral and written directions.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

KNOWLEDGE OF
  • City codes, ordinances and regulations regarding maintenance and operation of assigned department facilities.
  • Principles and practices of supervision, reviewing and evaluating the work of maintenance crew workers.
  • Assignment, direction and oversight of crews working on maintenance work.
  • Safety procedures in use of tools and equipment and performance of duties.
  • Department operations and policies.
  • Applicable sections of codes and laws.
  • Basic mechanical and electrical systems.
Parks Division 
  • Principles and practices of maintenance repair of irrigation, sprinkler systems, pumps, valves, and backflow devices.
  • Operation and maintenance of heavy equipment used in Parks and Recreation operations.
  • Techniques and procedure of basic carpentry, metalworking, masonry, painting, mechanical and electrical work.
  • Substantial knowledge of irrigation practices. 
Education and/or Experience 
 
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); three years related experience as a Senior Maintenance Worker with the City; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
 
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: 
Class A or B driver's license with applicable endorsements, or the ability to obtain within 12 months of appointment.
 
Parks Division 
-Possession of a certified Playground Safety Inspector certificate, or the ability to obtain said certificate within six months of appointment.
 
-Possession of a State of California Qualified Applicator's certificate, or the ability to obtain said certificate within six months of appointment.
 
-Possession of a Water Distribution Operator D-1 certificate, or the ability to obtain within 12 months of appointment.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.The City is expected to receive a 6.5% increase in base pay for all positions, to include this one, which will go into effect on 7/1/2026.

Salary : $91,254 - $105,837
