Description:
Under general direction of the Public Works Superintendent, this position assist in the management of the daily activities and work assignments of all assigned staff.
Summary of Responsibilities:
Assists in Management and coordination of the daily activities of all assigned staff; assigns work schedules; instructs employees in proper methods and procedures for street repair, snow removal, mowing, bush trimming, weed eating, leaf collection, trash removal, maintenance of parks, maintenance of facilities and surrounding grounds, equipment repair;
Reviews open work order requests and reviews and inspects work product of crews within assigned area assuring compliance with accepted standards and codes; approves and maintains employees’ leave and attendance; gives feedback on employee evaluations of crew, corrects, counsels, coaches, and recommends disciplinary action; assists in interviews candidates for employment; makes recommendations as to the hiring, firing, advancement, promotion, and other change of status of employees as needed and requested; prepares incident reports and other required reports affecting employees supervised.
Assist oversight of work performed by contractors; keeps the Public Works Superintendent informed on the status and progress of staff or contractor progress and issues.
Coordinates, promotes, and enforces safety program to reduce or eliminate occupational injuries, illnesses, deaths, and financial losses; conducts staff safety meetings; observes and evaluates workplaces and practices to ensure compliance with City, state and federal safety regulations. Meets all job safety requirements and all applicable PERRP safety standards that pertain to essential functions.
Oversees the gas card program, analyses gas usage and takes action to prevent abuse; oversees the preventative maintenance on vehicles and equipment.
Attends meetings, as directed; attends training and seminars, as directed.
Lead on all water related activities to include but not limited to, water distribution activities and repairs, storm water system activities. This includes keeping current on required certifications and deadlines.
Requirements:
Associates Degree, Bachelor’s Degree preferred, from an accredited college or university with major course work Construction Management, Construction and Building, Facilities Maintenance, Business Administration, Public Administration, or related field and five (5) years recent documented work experience in public works activities, and supervisory experience preferred or any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Must possess a valid driver’s license. Must remain insurable under the City’s vehicle insurance policy. Certified as an OEPA Class I (or higher) Water Distribution operator or be able to obtain certification as an OEPA Class I Water Distribution operator within eighteen (18) months of employment in this position.
