The City of Norwalk is looking for an experienced Public Safety professional to fill a vacancy in its Public Safety Department.
Develops, implements and oversees department programs, such as Neighborhood Watch and the Family Intervention Team.
Directs and participates in the interviewing, hiring and training of public safety personnel; acts as liaison with the Personnel Department in recruitment and related personnel matters.
Supervises, trains, counsels, assigns and evaluates supervisors within the division.
Represents the department at various government agency meetings; participates in community functions; plans and coordinates special events.
Coordinates with the L.A.S.D. Lieutenant on matters relating to Sheriff deployment and activities within the City.
Provides support for and serves as liaison to the Public Safety Commission.
Researches issues affecting the department; performs studies and prepares staff reports.
Directs and deploys Department resources at the scene of major events and during emergency situations.
Assigns and supervises the investigation of citizens' concerns and personnel complaints.Knowledge of: basic law enforcement organizations, activities, terminology and regulations; interviewing and investigative techniques; principles of supervision and management; municipal government operations; safe work methods and safety practices.
Ability to: communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; manage and complete multiple complex tasks in a fast paced environment; establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted during the course of work; operate a computer and other office equipment; operate radios and other communications equipment; provide leadership and supervision to Public Safety employees.
Education and/or Experience
Any combination of education and/or experience that has provided the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary. Example combinations include:
Equivalent to graduation from high school and four years of municipal public safety or law enforcement experience which has included substantial supervisory experience. A bachelor's degree in the administration of justice or public administration is highly desirable.
The Public Safety Officer III will manage a division within the department, supervising non-sworn supervisors and other personnel in their various roles. This position acts as a liaison between the community, the Public Safety Office, and the Sheriff's Department. Additionally, the Public Safety Officer III will represent the Director in their absence and at various assigned functions, as well as perform related tasks.
