What are the responsibilities and job description for the Permit Clerk I position at City of North Miami Beach?
This is specialized clerical work processing construction permit applications including moderately complex work procedures. Employees in the classification are responsible for reviewing construction permit applications, issuing construction permits, securing inspection approval, and recording completed projects. Duties include assisting owners, contractors, and developers in filing applications for building permits, determine the completeness of permit applications, and obtaining required documents to ensure compliance with established rules and regulations. Position reports to the Building Permits Processing Supervisor.

- Receives various construction permit applications from a variety of customers including contractors and developers; issues construction permits following review and approval of documentation and procedural appropriateness.
- Greets customers by telephone and in person and answers general inquiries regarding permit and license applications; determines customer’s needs and offers appropriate solutions that are satisfactory to the customer and consistent with departmental goals; explains submittal procedures to applicants for license and permit issuance.
- Performs detailed review of applications for permits and licenses for completeness; determines and arranges appropriate technical review.
- Informs applicants of status of permit applications and plan review.
- Performs a variety of clerical duties such as typing, filling, proofreading and copying various correspondence and documents; sorting and distributing mail; etc.
- Answers telephone calls related to housing complaints and issues; maintains log of calls and the disposition of the issues.
- Operates microfilming equipment, computer terminals to input and retrieve pertinent data, calculators and other office equipment as required.
- Maintains on a daily basis microfilm files.
- Maintains FEMA telephone logs.
- Performs other related duties as required.
- Must have knowledge of personal computers and Microsoft Office work; some knowledge of Microsoft Office Outlook.
- Knowledge of general office methods and procedures and customer service practices and procedures.

Must be physically able to operate various items if office related equipment, such as, but not limited to, word processor, computer, calculator, multi-line telephone, typewriter, copier, and facsimile machine etc.
- Must be able to hear clearly and to speak and signal to people in order to convey or exchange information.
- Must be able to see, adjust visual focus, including close range and differentiate colors and shades of color.
- Must be able to ambulate or otherwise move in a safe manner.
- Must be able to exert up to ten pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
- Work involves frequent typing, walking and occasional bending, lifting and stooping for short periods of time.
- Must be able to lift and/or carry weights of up to twenty pounds.
Salary : $40,233 - $62,416
