What are the responsibilities and job description for the Auto Mechanic I position at City of North Miami Beach?
Under general supervision, performs preventive and repair maintenance of all City Police Department equipment, machinery, and vehicles. Operates related trade equipment and tools. Reports to an administrative supervisor.

- Handles repairs and maintenance on all equipment, machinery, and vehicles.
- Operates various types of equipment, machinery, precision instruments and specialized tools such as hydraulic hose machine, jacks, lifts, air and power tools, pressure gauges, etc.
- Performs repair duties on specific systems to include engine repair, brake repair, electrical system repair, air conditioning and heating systems, etc.
- Handles various welding and fabricating duties to repair equipment, parts, etc.
- Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals to include equipment operators, Mechanic II, supervisors, trainees, other City employees, vendors, suppliers, etc.
- Performs other related duties as required
- High school diploma or equivalent with one to two years experience in automotive repair and maintenance; or any equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Florida driver's license with satisfactory driving record held throughout employment.
- Must be physically able to operate a variety of types of machines and heavy equipment including engine testers, battery testers, welding machine, torch, hydraulic hose machine, mechanics tools etc.
- Must be physically able to exert up to seventy-five pounds of force occasionally and/or up to fifty pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. Physical demands are in excess of sedentary work.
- Work involves reaching, pulling, pushing, stooping, kneeling, crawling, crouching, and balancing, etc. for periods of time.
