Shift: Night Shift: 12:00 am to 8:00 am Saturday - Wednesday. Must be able to work all shifts as needed.

Job Description

This job classification has been designated as a safety sensitive job classification in accordance with the Oklahoma Medical Marijuana and Patient Protection Act, 63 O.S., § 427.1 et seq., (OSCN 2019), effective August 29, 2019. This means employees in this job classification can be subject to disciplinary action up to and including termination if they test positive for marijuana components or metabolites, even if they possess a medical marijuana license.


Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent. Any experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Experience in water plant operations preferred.

Licenses and Certifications: Must have a valid Oklahoma Driver’s License and satisfactory driving record. Applicant must have or acquire an Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality Water Operator’s Certification, Class D within six (6) months of employment.

Knowledge: Pumps, motors, and valves. Basic laboratory testing procedures. EPA and state regulations. Proper sampling techniques.

Skills: Following oral and written instructions. Using hand tools and repairing equipment. Recognizing operating problems and assessing the correct response. Computing basic mathematical equations. Running tests and handling potentially hazardous chemical compounds. Effective interpersonal skills in communicating with co-workers and the general public.

Essential Functions: Collect samples from various locations and perform required analysis. Monitor and record pressure and flow reading throughout the treatment and distribution system as required. Collect and analyze process samples for various chemical and physical properties to determine proper chemical feed rates in the treatment process. Check equipment for proper operation. Check process control parameters from the plant, well field, wholesale connection and water towers and make adjustments as necessary. Answer phones, direct calls, take messages. Selected applicant will clean equipment and work area as needed to maintain a clean safe work environment. Monitor SCADA system and respond to alarms/warnings. Update operation logs, both hand written and computer generated, several times per shift as needed. Inspect equipment. Water shrubs and grounds. Dispose of lime grit. Relieve other operators, if needed for weekend shifts, evening shifts, and midnight shifts. Perform general housekeeping duties in all buildings. Must be able to cover all laboratory duties as assigned when Lab Manager and/or Lab Technician are unavailable including but not limited to: collect and set up bacteriological samples, data entry, customer complaints, daily sampling and analysis and follow the lab QA/QC protocol. Perform other related duties as required.

Mental and Physical Abilities: Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail. Substantial amount of physical effort required to climb/descend stairs and ladders for constant standing and walking. Ability to lift and carry heavy (50-75 lb.) materials occasionally. Ability to maintain regular, predictable and punctual attendance.

Working Conditions: Frequent exposure of up to 80% of work time to dirt, dust, extreme temperatures, noise, and noxious fumes and odors. On call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
