The Traffic Signal Technician I position installs and repairs various traffic signals, driver feedback signage and flashing beacons. Also, sets up barricades and other traffic control devices. The position will work with emergency response teams and support special events and is subject to on-call status.
Wiring of various electronic devices, including Traffic signal cabinets, school flashing lights, driver feedback signage. Installation of traffic signal related hardware. Provides Miss Utility marking for City of Norfolk Traffic Signal and IT assets. Must be able to utilize bucket trucks working at heights up to 45’. Must be able to determine wiring color codes and perform splices to various wiring configurations.
Essential Functions
Essential functions include but are not limited to:
- Wiring of various electronic devices, including Traffic signal cabinets, school flashing lights, driver feedback signage.
- Installation of traffic signal related hardware.
- Provides Miss Utility marking for City of Norfolk Traffic Signal and IT assets.
- Must be able to utilize bucket trucks working at heights up to 45’.
- Must be able to determine wiring color codes and perform splices to various wiring configurations.
Education/Experience
Work requires knowledge necessary to understand basic operational, technical, or office processes. Level of knowledge equivalent to four years of high school or equivalency.
One year experience in electronics/electrical or traffic related work preferred.
Additional Information & Requirements
- Valid Driver's License required.
VDOT Work Zone & Flagger Certification preferred.
IMSA Signal Certification preferred.
Commercial Driver’s License preferred.
Work Schedule: 7:00 am – 3:30PM (Monday – Friday) 40hrs/wk.
