As a Safety/Risk & Facilities Intern, you’ll work alongside our Facility and Safety Operations Supervisor and Facility Maintenance staff on real projects - learning what it takes to maintain safe, efficient, and compliant public facilities that serve the Newport community.
What You May Do:
- Assist with facility inspections, identifying maintenance and safety needs
- Support preventive maintenance tracking and documentation
- Participate in workplace safety inspections and hazard assessments
- Help review and update safety procedures and compliance materials
- Assist with incident tracking, reporting, and basic risk assessments
- Observe and support accident investigations and corrective actions
- Help coordinate safety trainings and track employee participation
- Assist with vendor coordination and facility-related projects
- Maintain records of maintenance activities, safety logs, and compliance documentation
- Support emergency preparedness planning and drills
- Tackle other hands-on safety, risk, and facilities-related tasks as assigned

Who Should Apply?
- We’re looking for individuals who are:
- At least 18 years old
- Enrolled in or recently completed a program in facilities management, occupational safety, risk management, public administration, or a related field OR high school students/graduates with a strong interest in workplace safety, facility operations, or public service
- Curious, detail-oriented, and willing to learn
- Interested in safety regulations, risk prevention, and building operations
- Strong communicators with a problem-solving mindset
- Able to work both independently and as part of a team

Site visits may include exposure to maintenance areas, mechanical rooms, and varying weather conditions
