As part of the Newport Airport team, you will be the first point of contact for pilots, crews, and passengers, creating a positive experience from the moment they arrive. This position blends hospitality, coordination, and communication as you assist with pilot requests, arrange ground transportation and catering, manage multi-line phones, and process payments with accuracy and professionalism. You will support daily operations, uphold compliance with Federal, State, and local regulations, and contribute to a strong team environment that enhances the experience of all Airport users.
What You'll Do:
- Provide timely, high-quality customer service by answering inquiries, directing calls, greeting guests, and sharing accurate information based on city and airport policy.
- Support aircraft arrivals and departures by assisting with ramp operations, passenger loading and unloading, and hospitality needs for crews and travelers.
- Take fuel orders, assist with Self-Serve FMU, coordinate aircraft parking, and communicate with line service technicians by radio.
- Manage multi-line phones, dispatch requests, and process customer payments with accuracy and professionalism.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and well-organized lobby while assisting with crew car and rental car coordination.
- Support recordkeeping, inventory, and ordering by maintaining service and maintenance logs, tracking parts and equipment, and preparing documentation.
MINIMUM/MANDATORY EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the duties as described. A typical way to obtain knowledge, skills, and abilities would be: High School equivalency and 2 years of related experience and training.
KNOWLEDGE: Must possess general working knowledge of standard office procedures and methods. Experience with Microsoft Windows, MS Word, MS Outlook, and MS Excel. Thorough knowledge of spelling, punctuation, grammar, math, and business English. Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet software programs and customer service.
Ability to gain knowledge of occupational hazards and effective/proper safety standards, practices, and procedures relating to aircraft fueling, equipment operation, vehicle record maintenance, grounds records maintenance, and equipment records. Ability to gain knowledge of FAA operations, materials, methods, techniques, and federal, state, and local laws.
SKILLS: Must have excellent customer service skills and be able to communicate effectively with co-workers and the general public, answer telephones, and clearly communicate information. Demonstrate the skills of good judgment and patience. Requires typing at a speed that would enable a transaction or project to be completed in a timely manner. Skill in the use of personal computers, various related software programs, and standard office equipment. Must be able to complete fee transactions quickly and accurately, and prepare daily cash report using math principles. Strong math, time management, analytical, organization, and prioritization skills. Customer service orientation and skills. Excellent judgement and professionalism.
ABILITIES:
Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with City management, employees, other entities, and the general public. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with individuals and groups. Ability to write class descriptions, public service announcements, and business letters. Ability to honor the confidentiality required of this position. Read, understand, and review documents for accuracy and relevant information. Use applicable office terminology, forms, documents, and procedures in the course of the work. Use sound judgment in following and applying appropriate laws, regulations, policies, and procedures. Proofread and edit draft reports or correspondence for errors in grammar or structure. Coordinate activities and meet critical deadlines. Deal successfully with the public, in person and over the telephone. Understand and follow instructions. Ability to follow oral and written instructions and ask questions when needed. Physical ability to perform the essential job functions.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
NATA Safety First Aviation Customer Service Certification at the time of hire.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS/LICENSES:
Possession of a valid Oregon driver’s license at the time of hire.
Occupational Noise Exposure training within 30 days of hire.
NATA Safety First Aviation Customer Service Certification within 6 months of hire.
Other certifications as required by position classification.
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, bend, kneel, stoop, communicate, reach, and manipulate objects, tools, or controls. This position requires mobility, including the ability to lift and move materials weighing up to 30 pounds. Manual dexterity and coordination are required for up to 50% of the work period while assisting passengers and crews. Physical effort may be required to perform light manual labor in uncomfortable conditions, climb ladders, and bend, reach, and stand for long periods.
