One day, you might be rebuilding the suspension system of a ladder truck that sees daily use in lifesaving situations. Another day, you're troubleshooting a complex electrical issue in an ambulance to ensure its systems communicate effectively in the field. You'll work with both diesel and gasoline engines, advanced computerized systems, hydraulic components, and more, diving deep into diagnostics and repairs that require precision and expertise. Your work could involve performing a state inspection on a rescue unit one morning and by afternoon, fabricating a custom modification that improves how tools are deployed at an emergency scene. Some days will include providing technical guidance to fellow technicians as the shop turns to you for insight on a difficult mechanical challenge.
You'll also maintain detailed records of each repair or service, not just to track work but to help predict and prevent future issues. The customers you serve go beyond the vehicles, youre supporting firefighters, paramedics, and other city personnel who depend on reliable equipment to protect and serve the community.
In this role, no two days are the same, but every task, whether large or small, contributes to public safety and operational excellence. If you take pride in your craft and thrive in an environment where your work truly matters, this is the career path that lets you make a lasting impact.
In this role, you must possess and maintain the Emergency Vehicle Technician Level I certification.
