Definition

If you enjoy working outdoors with an exceptional team of people and are interested in performing water and wastewater utility services, including construction, maintenance, and related service activities, we encourage you to apply! Currently, there is one part-time vacancy in the Utilities Department. A commercial driver's licenses and water and /or wastewater certificates are desirable. This recruitment will fill full-time positions as well in the future.

Selection Components

  • Application Evaluation - Applications will be accepted on a continuous basis with the first review date of Tuesday, June 2, 2026 or at 150 applications. Those candidates deemed most qualified, as reflected in their online application will be invited to a virtual interview.
  • Virtual Interview: Tentatively scheduled for the week of June 8, 2026. Successful applicants will be placed on an eligibility list that may be used to fill future part-time and full-time vacancies as they occur.

Schedule

  • Part Time: This position may work up to 27 hours per week.
  • If a Full-Time position becomes available, this position will work a 9/80 schedule.

Experience & Education and License/Certificate

Required

A combination of experience and education that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities may be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Experience: One year experience in construction or operation and/or repair of water, wastewater, or related utilities systems.

Education: High school graduation or equivalent. College level coursework in water utility science and/or environmental studies are desirable.

License/Certificate: Possession of a valid California Class C driver's license at time of appointment. Depending on area of assignment, may also be required to obtain a valid California class A or B driver's license (with tank endorsements) within twelve months of employment.

Possession of, or ability to obtain a valid Grade I Water Distribution certificate issued by the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) or State Water Resources Control Board (SWRCB) or Grade I Wastewater Collection certificate issued by the California Water Environment Association (CWEA) is required within twelve months of employment. The specific certification required will depend on area of assignment.
