What are the responsibilities and job description for the Custodian position at City of Murfreesboro?
This position is considered a Safety-Sensitive position. Applicants who pass the interview process will be subject to drug and alcohol testing.
The purpose of this position within the organization is to maintain the overall cleanliness of the facility and surrounding grounds and set-up for activities and meetings.
Essential Functions:
- Must be able to communicate with others in spoken and written English to ensure the safe and efficient operations of the business.
- Maintains and cleans restrooms, drinking fountains and kitchen in a sanitary manner.
- Removes litter and wastepaper from inside the building and on the surrounding grounds, cares for and waters plants.
- Replaces soap and paper products in dispensers, sweeps, mops, and waxes floors and stairwells on a routine basis; vacuums and cleans carpets.
- Cleans windows; changes light bulbs as needed.
- Sets up and takes down for meetings and carries equipment, tables, chairs and other objects weighing up to 50 pounds without assistance. Dollies are available to help with moving equipment and furniture.
- Dusts; polishes furniture; cleans window ledges, banisters, ceilings, radiators, and bleachers.
- Performs minor repairs to the facility and equipment as required and ensures the facility is safe for patrons and employees.
- Uses City-owned vehicles to run errands and deliveries.
- Uses a ladder and hand tools including, but not limited to, hammers, screwdrivers, wrenches, heavy equipment, power tools, pliers, paint brushes, etc.
- Monitor building and report any maintenance needs to the supervisor.
- Some positions may require driving.
- Performs other work as assigned.
Physical Demands:
- Refer to Essential Functions Addendum #2.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent preferred.
- Three (3) months of janitorial or custodial experience preferred.
Special Certifications and Licenses:
- Some positions may require a drivers license.
