What are the responsibilities and job description for the Library Page position at City of Monona?
Working both independently and at times closely with 1-2 other team members, the Library Page ensures materials returned are checked in in a thorough and timely manner, organizes materials to be shelved, and returns materials to the correct location in the library.
This is an hourly part-time position, requiring an average of 10 hours per week. The schedule for this position is as follows:Tuesdays: 8:45 AM – 11:45 AM
Wednesdays: 2:00 PM – 5:00 PM
Thursdays: 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM
Saturday, one a month: 8:45 AM – 12:45 PM
The following duties are normal for this position. These should not be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive; other duties may be required and assigned.
- Retrieves materials from book bins
- Processes materials
- Shelves returned materials
- Ensures library materials are correctly organized
- Clears tables and straightens the library
- Shelf Reading
- Shifting Collections as necessary
- Participating in training sessions
- Assisting patrons within agreed limits
- Opening, closing and cleanup procedures
- Performs other related tasks as assigned
- Ability to sort and put materials in order alphabetically and numerically
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
- Ability to work without direct supervision
- Ability to work independently
- Ability to communicate with staff and the public
- Ability to use or to learn to use a computer for checking in items and checking work emails/messages
Minimum physical abilities required to perform job:
- Ability to frequently move among shelves and to place books on shelves. Some shelves may require bending, stooping, or reaching in order to access
- Ability to move books to retrieve them from bins, sort them and place them on shelves
- Far vision at 20 feet or further; near vision at 20 feet or less
- Ability to use a computer
- Ability to move carts weighing 300-400 pounds on wheels
- Ability to work evenings and weekends as required
- Willingness to work with others and be cooperative with library staff
