What are the responsibilities and job description for the SENIOR SERVICES SPECIALIST I position at City of Miramar?

Under occasional supervision, plans, coordinates and implements senior and social service programs designed to meet the needs of the community. Supervises the work of part-time personnel as assigned. Ensures compliance with all applicable policies, procedures, regulations, and standards of quality and safety. Reports to the Senior Services Superintendent or designee
  • Plans, coordinates and implements programs and activities and events that meet the needs of the community, which may include but are not limited to senior programs, special benefit programs, trips, exercise programs, special events for seniors, various classes, and other programming.
  • Under supervision ensures contract compliance; receives receipts and records payments; balances receipts and money; prepares deposits; and maintains account records.
  • Supervises daily activities of subordinate staff.
  • Coordinates Farm Share program. Acts as back-up for EHEAP applications; and acts as a back-up for MASH program.
  • Registers and performs intakes for new seniors Coordinates and plans special trips for seniors.
  • Organizes and supervises activities; directly supervises and interacts with seniors and the public during programs; ensures safety and resolves conflicts as required.
  • Registers seniors and the community for programs; receives receipts and records program payments. Provides information & referral services for seniors and their families.
  • Follows up on all referrals to assure needs are met.
  • Staffs special events. May transport seniors to and from events or programs as required.
  • Orders and/or prepares warehouse requisitions for equipment and supplies as needed
  • Plans, coordinates and implements events and meetings; makes arrangements for refreshments.
  • Leads other daily activities.
  • Solicits donations and sponsorships from local businesses and organizations.
  • Assists in coordinating facility rentals and distributing publicity materials.
  • Prepares and maintains required records and reports in a timely and accurate manner and/or supervises subordinate staff in report preparation. Inputs data into computerized database system.
  • Receives and responds to inquiries, concerns and complaints of customers and the general public.
  • Monitors facility and equipment for safety and proper condition; may prepare work orders for maintenance work as needed.
  • Performs general administrative/office duties as required, including conducting and attending meetings, preparing reports and correspondence, entering computer data, copying and filing documents, faxing information, answering the telephone, assembling materials, etc.
  • Operates city vehicles, including passenger vans, and a variety of equipment such as a computer, printer, audio-visual equipment, copier, fax machine, telephone, laminator, binder, etc.
  • Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals such as the immediate supervisor, other City department heads and personnel, subordinates, sales representatives, participants and their family members, community organizations, news media, and the general public.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
  • High school diploma or GED and 1 year of experience in senior services programs; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
  • Must possess a valid Florida driver's license.
  • Must obtain first aid and CPR certification within 60 days of employment.
  • Must successfully pass a level II background screening.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bilingual speaker (English/Spanish)

  • Knowledge of senior services programs.
  • Knowledge of customer service methods and practices.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written form.  
  • Ability to adapt to an evolving and continually improving environment.  
  • Ability to respond to supervision, guidance, and direction of superiors in a positive, receptive manner and in accordance with stated policies and procedures.
  • Ability to demonstrate a polite, helpful, and courteous manner when engaged in any activity with the general public.
  • Ability to operate and care for equipment to manufacturer’s specifications and/or within the specified parameters.
  • Ability to demonstrate an understanding, consideration, and respect of cultural, religious, and gender differences when interacting with the general public and colleagues

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Requires light physical effort including lifting up to 25 pounds. May require occasional crouching, kneeling, bending, or stooping. Frequent periods of standing or walking may be required.

Salary : $50,588 - $74,883
